When Lance was my boss, he never forgot my birthday or my children’s.  He’d send them some Suns swag.  He was a good boss that way; made everyone feel appreciated.
I was so sorry to hear about Lance's passing. I'll be keeping your family in my thoughts.

I covered the Texas Men's Basketball great run in 1990 and got to know and hang out with Lance Blanks a bit.  I’ll never forget the way he carried that team in the 2nd half of the Sweet 16 against Xavier. Man he could score.

I had the pleasure of working with him and producing a game at Texas with him as my analyst. Was fun catching up.

He was everyone’s friend and one of the most genuine people I have ever met.

Just horrible news. Condolences to his family and friends.

RIP Lance Blanks

I had the pleasure of covering BMW on the Longhorn Radio Network, and then working with Lance in San Antonio.  He was one of the most upbeat and positive guys I’ve met in my 44 years of covering basketball.  R.I.P. Lance. I hope you’re dancing with the angels.

I've known Lance since he was a little tyke when the family used to visit Port Lavaca and stay at Loraine Williams' house.  We always had a great fun time just being kids.  Me, Sid Jr., Bridgette, Vanessa, Pat, Cory and Jackie.  Such fun innocent times.  You will be sorely missed by so many of us who love you bro. FLY ON!!!!
This pain is familiar to me, I know, I know and I know!!!
Praying that your family heals fast .

Sending condolences to my family and loved one. Praying for strength and comfort.  Remember to lean on God in your time of need. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord and that is the best place to be. This is not a goodbye but a celebration of life that we will meet again when God calls us home.

During the summer, while attending UT, I would bring my little brothers to the gym (they were 5 and 6 years old). Lance, was the first Longhorn to toss them a ball and engage them. One of them still remembers him. From those days forward, whenever I ran into Lance on campus, he would always say, “Where are the boys?” A few years ago, I randomly ran into Lance, the first thing he said was, “Where are the boys?”

Lance was a great guy, with a smile that could light up a gym. I’m proud to have known him. I’m glad his children know he was loved and admired by many.

First, my sincere and deepest condolences to the Blanks family.

Lance was my childhood idol. I wore #32 in 8th and 9th grade basketball because of Lance. I was often asked, “Mike, are you wearing #32 because of Magic Johnson?” And I replied, “No, I’m wearing it because of Lance Blanks!”

Lance, you had “Swag” before “Swag” was branded “Swag.”—Thank you for the impact on and off the court that you made at McCullough High School and The Woodlands community.  We loved you and always so proud that you represented our community with so much class and dignity

Rest in Peace

Rest in peace Lance. Thanks for the memories and I know you are with your Dad and those you loved who went before. Praying for your family as they celebrate your wonderful life and all the great memories.

Lance Blanks was the B in our "BMW" basketball machine from 1988-1990. He was a young man who set his goals high in basketball and in life. He’s a Longhorn Legend in every sense. His Longhorn teammates loved him too. He gave 100% every single day! He never had  a bad day. He was a leader and a fearless competitor. Lance helped his teammates long after he played for Texas.

Lance  was a bright light in my life from the day I met him. He had that spark. He stayed in touch with my wife Susie too.  We lost a family member. I’ll miss our monthly calls and texts. Every one of those ended with the words “I love you coach” and "give my love to Mrs Penders" or Susie.

When I first met him I asked him what his life goals were. He wrote them down for me. He wanted to earn his degree and be a leader on our Runnin' Horns team. He dreamed of being a great college basketball player and becoming a First Round NBA draft pick. He wanted to see the world by playing professionally in Europe after an NBA career. When his playing days were over he wanted to be a college basketball television analyst. He even mentioned that family was very important to him and he hoped to have a couple of kids one day.

Lance lived his dreams and more. He meant so much to so many. He helped many of his teammates and me, his old coach, when we needed help. He was a man of action and his word was as good as gold. He was always there for us.

His family was the most important thing in his life. I loved listening to him talk about his famous father Sid Blanks, whom I knew of before I even met Lance.  And his girls, Riley and Bryn, couldn't have made him prouder or happier.  He was blessed with a beautiful family.

I will think of Lance every day that I'm on this earth and it will bring a smile to my face.  May he rest in peace.

On behalf of my family, Susie, Tommy Jr., and Karli, I send our deepest condolences, our love and prayers to Lance's beloved family, Mrs. Blanks, Riley, Bryn and Renee.

Tom Penders

A great enjoyable person, always willing to help others.  He just went on up ahead to light the way for me and you.  We will miss Lance Blanks.  HOOK 'em
I was Lance’s strength coach at UT; he never wasted time with his challenges. We were in preseason workouts, not long after he arrived at UT and I was pushing the team hard. Finally, Lance jumped up from the bench and was in my face (I’m 6’8”) asking, “Do you think I’m lazy,” I calmly looked down at him and said, “if you were lazy, you wouldn’t be here”. Validated, he was back on the bench going ‘let’s do this!’. After his UT tenure I assisted him several time as he prepared to go overseas, and he always proved his tireless tenacity. Also, He always remembered and was sure I attended functions at UT to honor his team. Being his friend was a honor.

I had the privilege of working with Lance in 2019 to plan a symposium at UT on brain injuries in football. He shared one of his favorite photos in his opening remarks.
I would like to extend our deepest condolences to the Blanks Family.  There are no words, just prayers and fund memories of "Lance and Boobie" and "Boobie and Lance".  I recall running into Lance in Dallas at a NBA Allstar Weekend, he gave me his number and said call me let's have lunch and through all the madness going on that weekend we actual did have lunch and was able to catch up on our Cambridge Village lfamily and our own lives.  What a blessing that was.  Lance was just Lance who we grew up with. Really a solid guy whom we the Cambridge Village family are so proud of!   One of our little brothers.  Rest easy and continued prayers for your spirit and for the family.   Trust God to lead you through these difficult times.     So much  Love, The Harris Family (Byaundra & Byron Jr)
