Lana's obituary

Lana Marie (Hruzek) Wright, of Lockhart, TX, passed away on August 15, 2022, at the age of 72. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, John Wright, her daughter Dawn Calvert and son-in-law Van Calvert of Austin, TX, her son Lloyd Wright and daughter-in-law Sherry Wright of Valley View, TX, son Thorin Wright and daughter-in-law Jacqueline Haines of Tempe, AZ, along with grandson Austin Wright of Burbank, CA and step-granddaughter Penelope Davis of Tempe, AZ. She is also survived by brother Pat Hruzek and his wife Ellen, and nephews Tony, Duane, and Chris Hruzek.

Lana was born on September 13, 1949 in McAllen, TX to father Anton Hruzek and mother Theresa (Gawlik) Martin. She was a graduate of University of Texas–Rio Grande Valley (then Pan American University) in Edinburg, TX. She was a dedicated public school teacher of a number of subjects, including English and American History. Across her career, she taught at public schools for over 25 years across Texas in Pharr, Daingerfield, Jefferson, Lewisville, and Flower Mound. In her retirement, she was a creative crafter, hand-creating metal and stone jewelry. Her retirement saw her move briefly with her husband John to Sedona, AZ, before ultimately making her final home in the Austin area of Texas. More than teaching and jewelry, her greatest joys were found being a mother, grandmother, and dog-parent.

Her memorial service will be on September 10, 2022 at 9:30am at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Lockhart, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Humane Society of Central Texas.
