LaMoyne's obituary
LaMoyne E. Addleman (85) passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto, California. He was born on January 19, 1938, in San Francisco to DeVone Floy Miller (later Addleman). While his given name was Ernest Miller, he later changed his name to honor his uncle LaMoyne Walton, who was killed in WWII on the Pacific Island of Tarawa, and his adoptive father Frank R. Addleman. He spent most of his childhood in North San Juan, California enjoying the freedom and mischief of a young hellion. One memorable story, often repeated, involved him and a cousin stealing the general store’s bell and dropping it into a nearby outhouse. Tragically, they were caught, and the pair was forced to retrieve the bell. LaMoyne drew the short straw and was lowered, head-first, to reclaim the bell from the malodourous pile.
As a teenager LaMoyne ran away from home and worked on a ranch in northern Nevada, before joining the Navy in 1955, at the age of 17. He went on to train to become an electrician. LaMoyne had six children: Tammy Bumgarner; Cindy Addleman; Frank Addleman, II; Billie (Brandi Monger) Addleman; Chenoa (Michael) Allen; and Mary Thompson.
LaMoyne was an active IBEW Local 401 member and made his home in San Francisco from the late 1980s through the mid-2010s. He was an enthusiastic supporter of his children’s education and activities. He loved meeting people, traveling, fishing, and learning history. He never met a stranger and always enjoyed telling his many stories, with colorful language; delicate ears be warned.
LaMoyne is survived by his wife Thu Truong Addleman of San Jose, California, his six children, 9 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. His children express immense gratitude to Thu for her love and care in his last years.
