Lam Khut is survived by five daughters; Ry Novang (Steve) of Mount Shasta, CA, Roeun Chy (Sokhoeum Pot) of Lowell, MA, Milian Chy (Marcos Bosita), Leilanie Chy (Justin Curet) of Chicago, IL, and Mellyna Chy of Chicago, IL; three sons; Roeuth Chy (Borey Long) of Lowell, MA, Rath Chy of North Highlands, CA, Loeup Chy (Lindsay) of Rocklin, CA; seventeen grandchildren; Michael and Mayuree Novang of Mount Shasta, CA, Vanchany, Rachna, Reaksmey Pot & Neath, Maru and Aleckai Chy of Lowell, MA, Mark, Jerryco, Lovely and Marcos Jr. Bosita & Yanei, Bellissa and Justin Curet of Chicago, IL and Isaac and Mattix Chy of Rocklin, CA.
Lam Khut was born on May 10, 1948 in Battambang, Cambodia to Chea, Touch and Srey, Khut. She married Pech Chy (d.), her childhood sweetheart in 1966. After moving to Chicago in 1985, Lam Khut began working for Watersaver Facucet Co. for a decade and then as a homemaker. Over the years, the couple welcome eight children into their home and Lam Khut set about teaching them her humorous, kind, and compassionate ways and her love for nature. Her children remember her as a loving, generous and resilient mother who encouraged them to always pursue their goals.
Lam Khut was an accomplished seamstress and cook; she often spent her time designing clothes, sharing recipes with peers and neighbors, as well as tending to her garden. In the words of her grandchildren she will be remembered as a “bad-ass, super funny and loving” individual who enjoyed the little things in life and was passionate about her family.
A traditional Cambodian Funeral is scheduled at Trairatanaram Temple, 21 Quigley Ave, North Chelmsford, MA at 2 p.m. Friday, June 12, 2020 and Saturday, June 13, 2020 at 11 a.m.
Due to the state restrictions arising from COVID-19, immediate family members and select few are welcome to attend and celebrate Lam’s life.
