Myself and a couple of other third year medics saw two freshers hanging around by the clock tower, on the very first day of entering medical school, looking very confident and quite uninhibited by the daunting occasion! One of them was Bala who I had first met at Brodie House Hostel when he was a ‘TUTOR’ to Loretta. They became easy targets for our initiation ceremony, the RAG! Bala cheerfully survived the rag with his characteristic half smile on his face and was easily accepted into the ‘CLUB’! We all later ended up at the Bloem Fonteyn Hostel where we had a memorable time together!
Bala never changed since then!
Here in UK, at the regular lunches he and Loretta hosted, it was fascinating listening to his input on all the sporting events he regularly enjoyed. His and Loretta’s hospitality has always been appreciated by all his friends!

Our deepest sympathies to Loretta, Shanika, Manori and the rest of the family on the loss of your beloved husband and father. He loved his family and was very proud of his girls. When he visited Montreal he would tell us stories of his past experiences and achievements. Some of these stories were so funny. His sense of humour was mostly related to his past. He was an ardent cricket fan too, who invited the Sri Lankan cricket team whenever they visited UK.
May his beautiful soul rest in peace.
Randolph, Preethie, Randy and Shawn.
