Kristina's obituary
With profound sadness and thankfulness for her life and the blessings she brought us, we announce the passing of Kristina Ashley Mulder, daughter, sister, granddaughter, aunt, niece, cousin and friend. God called Kristina home on March 9, 2026.
Kristina was born in Fort Worth Texas to Rudy and Helen Mulder. She is survived by both her parents and step parents, Michelle Mulder and Chris Swan.
A child full of joy and curiosity, she had a soul and spirit that was always quietly thinking and her heart was always open. She cared for her people deeply. No judgement - Just Love.
She especially enjoyed being a sister to Jonathan and Sarah (Evan), Alec, Jo, and Chuck and Steph (Nora). She loved family events: movies, birthdays, graduations, weddings and holidays with her siblings. Especially Christmas and the family traditions that surrounded it.
Kristina grew up in the Chicago area and graduated from Northshore Country Day School. Her love of country music and concerts led her to Belmont University in Nashville to study the industry. She lived in Nashville for several years before moving back to the Chicago area to be close to her family, where she met and married Joe Matthews.
Professionally, Kristina dedicated herself to the retail industry, where her genuine care and empathy for others shone brightly. She was known for her ability to connect with people, making them feel valued and appreciated. Her colleagues and customers alike admired her dedication and love of retail (and shopping!).
Kristina had a deep love of animals. Her fur babies were her joy. Throughout her life she always had animals around her and wanted to help as many as she could.
We will remember her contagious smile, warmth and the light she brought to all who knew her.
Per her wishes, a private service will be held at Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago in the Buchanan Chapel (Second floor of the Gratz Center) 126 E. Chestnut St., Chicago, IL 60611 on April 16th at 1:00pm for family and close friends.
Reception to follow: LUXBAR 18 E Bellevue Pl, Chicago, IL 60611
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Kristina's memory to PAWS Chicago.
The family would also like to extend their deepest gratitude to Vitas Hospice for their exceptional support, care and friendship during her final months.
Kristina will be deeply missed, but forever in our hearts. Fly high beautiful girl - We love you. Until we see your smile again.
