Dearest Paul,
Kristen was my partner in crime in Sofia, Bulgaria…we shared the same birthday and bonded over all things travel, skiing, our love for America, our responsibility in serving others, and just how extraordinarily lucky we were to be on such an incredible adventure. We used to pop to Istanbul on weekends, Torino for the Winter Olympics, beach breaks in Greece or just ordinary diplomat “stuff” in Sofia. A year after we left I remember walking through London and receiving a call from her, butterflies-excited about “a guy named Paul” that she’d just met at golf. It would seem that first date turned out pretty well!
Kristen is integral in so many of my wicked grins, laughs and memories of our time in Bulgaria; though we lost touch, I will cherish those and her memory always. My love and condolences to you and family.

I met Kristen at the Inova Living with Cancer support group. Even though Kristen was already under hospice care, she invited members to a lunch before a memorial service of another member who had died. It was very inspiring to meet Kristen and Paul in person and see her zest for life. It was just like her to organize her celebration of life while she was alive to see her family and friends.

I had the pleasure of working with Kristen in Côte d’Ivoire. She was so full of enthusiasm for her work and living in Abidjan, but even more than that she loved her team and colleagues so much. Kristen had so much compassion and empathy for those around her and was so easy to be around. I am devastated to hear this news - all my thoughts are with her family and friends. She will be missed.
