Sending our deepest condolences. I am Evan Lei's mother. We had the absolute joy of sharing dinner with Stop Motion 2 weeks ago during our visit to Denver. I had asked Evan if we could get the band together so we could get to know these friends who mean so much to Evan. We had such a fun night with everyone. As a mom, it made my heart full to see my son with the people who fill his life with so much joy. Azad was so funny and engaging. I will be forever grateful that we got these moments together. Our hearts ache for you, Faith, and all those who love him. I pray you will find comfort as you gather together to remember Azad. We will never forget him and our hearts are with you.

Our deepest condolences to Sujju and family. We remember a very young Azad in taekwondo uniform and also his dad, Prakash, teaching him musical instrument with both of them deeply engrossed.

Dear Azad's family, friends, and students,

I cannot express in mere words the feel deep condolences I feel for you at this time. I was so shocked and saddened by this news that I am barely able to process it 5 days later. I am forever grateful for the few years I was fortunate enough to know Azad and play music with him. So often on stage, I would look back at him and see his bright, glowing smile. The photos I just posted remind me of all the gigs and good times we shared that some so distant from me and my life now. Azad's positive energy, sense of humor, and passion for playing were unmatched in our band. He was an amazing bandmate, friend, and confidant. As hard as this must be for us all, I am praying for Azad and his family right now. I'm trying to remember the many times he blessed us with his smile, his jokes, his brilliant creative musicianship, his impeccable sense of rhythm, timing, and syncopation, his good heart and nature, his kindness and thoughtfulness, his love and honesty...I miss him dearly already. I can't tell you how many times I listened to him play and said to myself, "Oh my God I am so lucky to be playing and sharing music with this amazing person and musician." I absolutely loved how his amazingly sweet and kind mother would drive 3 hours from Manhattan just to see him perform with us, and I am praying for you, thinking about you, and sending as much love, consolation, and condolences as I can at this time. Although I am far away in Florida, I will never forget Azad and all the beautiful times we shared. I will remember the incredible things he shared with us all on this earth, and the amazing impacts he's had on so many people's lives through his music and passion will live on in our hearts, minds, and spirits. I will see you at the service virtually tomorrow. Much love and warm thoughts, Cody

Azad was a wonderful teacher. His patience, advice, and encouragement meant everything to our child, who would listen to tracks of Azad’s bands at home and practice specifically so he could show Azad all of his hard work. For us, Azad was a warm, welcoming teacher and role model and our 7 year old adored him. We miss him very much.
Our family had the great pleasure of working with Azad for the past 7 months. After years, literal years, of my daughter begging to play the drums we caved and set up private lessons. To me Azad was always bubbly, kind, and excited about what he and Brylie were working on. To her he was supportive, fun, easy going, and a musician that she was truly in awe of. She is crushed by this loss but thankful that she had the time with him that she did. Rest in peace Azad. 💜
My deepest condolences to Sujatha and all of Azad's friends. I see from the other remembrances that Azad embodied the characteristics of my dear friend, Prakash -- humor, caring, intelligence... Although I only met Azad as a very young boy, reading about him has given me another chance to reflect on what an incredible person and friend Prakash was to everyone. It seems Azad carried that forward and similarly touched the lives of many. and made this world a better place. Peace. Mike Bourque
I met Azad in 2013ish because of him playing in Sharp 9 - a band full of humans who would become very near and dear to my heart over the years - and because we were in ADEKU (the African Drum Ensemble at KU) at the same time for a year. For a few years I think I hung out with him several times a week between all the things. He came to my birthday parties- playing at some of them and was always there. He was part of my chosen family, part of the crew.

The year before he moved to Denver he and I had started bonding over stand up comedy. We both shared aspirations of being comedians but unlike myself he actually started doing it! We got together a couple times to workshop jokes and end up just having back and forth banter til we’d both be in tears from laughing so hard. He was so funny. I remember feeling so proud of him for getting up on the stage and being vulnerable in front of an audience. He loved it when his jokes would land and send the audience into a fit of laughter. He would beam. I had hoped he would stick with it out in Denver and thought I’d be hearing about him opening up some stand up show sooner or later.

Azad was such a talented human, so funny, charming, and sweet. I had hoped when we said goodbye that it was more of a see you later - now I know it’s much later than I intended. May he Rest In Peace. Sending my condolences 💙
