Kirk's obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Kirk Schlueter. Born on August 4, 1953, Kirk departed from this world too soon on February 15, 2023. He was a lovable man, whose presence was felt by all who were lucky enough to have known him.

Kirk is survived by his sister Cathy Hurrin, his beloved wife, Yvonne Schlueter, who was a constant beacon of support throughout his life, and his three children. His legacy will continue through his two sons, Garrett and Brett Schlueter, and his daughter, Jenna Schlueter. Each of them embodies Kirk's virtues of humility, unconditional love, and the importance of treating others with kindness and respect.

Kirk graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He played college football at MSU as a defensive back and was a sprinter on the track team.

After college, Kirk worked for Chrysler Automotive in Detroit. In 1980 Kirk and Yvonne got married and moved to Colorado where he was employed by Martin Marietta. He later worked at Black & Veatch and then Qwest.

A humble man at heart, Kirk was a remarkable athlete who never boasted about his natural talent. He had an overflowing amount of love for his family, and the lessons he taught will continue to guide them. His greatest lesson was the understanding that materialistic possessions hold no real value in life. He believed that family is the cornerstone of life, and his actions exemplified his words.

Apart from being an extraordinary father, husband, and friend, he was an unbelievable skier. He taught his entire family how to ski at his favorite resort, Mary Jane, located in Winter Park, CO.

Kirk loved socializing over coffee, breakfast or lunch. He enjoyed ribbing his friends and engaging in friendly banter. He made people laugh just with the tone of his voice, whether it was in everyday conversation or when telling a story. Everyone loved to be in his company.

A Celebration of Life for Kirk will take place on October 14, 2023, at 4:00 PM at the Schlueter home located at 5840 South Sherman Way, Centennial, CO 80121. It will be a time for friends and family to gather, share stories and laughs, and to celebrate Kirk's life.

Those who wish to honor Kirk's memory may support the Boston University Concussion Legacy Foundation. They are performing groundbreaking medical research to help create knowledge and awareness that will make sports safer for all athletes at all levels of play, as well as facilitating research that will generate treatment and eventually a cure for CTE. The Schlueter family donated Kirk's brain to this foundation. Donations can be made at the following website: https://everloved.com/life-of….

Though Kirk is no longer with us in the physical realm, his kindness, sense of humor, and love continue to live on. His legacy is one of love, humility, and the importance of family - values that will never be forgotten.
