Kim (Taylor)'s obituary

Kim (Taylor) Massey Gremes

Kim (Taylor) Massey Gremes, 66, peacefully reunited with her husband, Danny, on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at her home in Lytle, TX after courageously battling ovarian cancer. She was born on August 14, 1957, in Dayton, KY, a daughter of Leo Burton and Patricia Ruth (Toll) Taylor, the youngest of three children.

Kim lived in various locations (Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Ohio, and Florida) as a child due to her father’s career with race horses until the family finally moved to Ocala, FL where she graduated in 1975 from Forrest High School. She settled in Texas after her four-year active-duty military commitment ended. Kim proudly served in the US Air Force from 1980-1984 as a Plumbing Specialist. During this time, she was stationed in Zweibrucken, Germany and afforded the opportunity to tour nearby European countries. Her athleticism thrived as she participated in broom hockey and softball. She continued with the USAF Reserves until 2001 when she retired as a Master Sergeant after 21 years of combined service. In 2000, Kim went to vocational school to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), graduating as her class’s Salutatorian. She graduated Cume Laude from the University of Texas San Antonio Health Science Center in 2005 earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing which landed her a position at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) as a Registered Nurse where she retired in 2014.

On June 12, 1999, Kim married Daniel Thomas Gremes Sr. in Lytle. They happily enjoyed the life they built together until his passing in 2019, shortly after celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary with a Hawaiian Island cruise. Kim loved her family deeply, relished traveling with them, and would do anything for them.

Kim increased her fondness for animals (passed on to her children) growing up on or around horse farms. During her youth, she displayed her natural ability with horses as she helped groom, saddle, break, and train them. She raised chickens, pigs, steers, and rescued horses on the Lytle homestead. She actively participated in her daughter’s 4-H program when Shannon was showing horses as well as raising and showing pigs, goats, and steers in FFA. Kim led her son, Andrew’s Cub Scout den for years and joined in the leadership of his Boy Scout troop with Danny.

Kim’s avid hobby of raising and showing award winning Standard Schnauzers began in 1984 with her dogs, Christopher and Francesca. She rekindled that passion after retirement which also included breeding and rescuing. Kim joined the Standard Schnauzer Club of America, polished her craft, won numerous awards and made lasting friendships. She later held the position of Rescue Chair and in 2016, was appointed the National Specialty Trophy Chair.

Kim dedicated a large portion of her life to serving her country and helping others, which speaks volumes of her character. She was loved and respected by so many. She will be sorely missed and forever remembered by all whose lives she touched.

Kim is survived by her beloved children, son, Andrew Lee Massey and daughter, Shannon Patricia Hamilton as well as her precious grandchildren, Mason Allan Hamilton and Paislee Ruth Hamilton; sister, Sharon Hughes; brother, Daryl Taylor and his wife Debbie; niece Staci (Taylor) Miller & family; Aunt Ruby Green along with numerous cousins and a multitude of friends.

Besides her parents and husband, Kim was predeceased by her nephew Brian Taylor and her two cherished Standard Schnauzers, Natalie & Reggie.
