Kevin's obituary
Obituary for Kevin D. Vejtasa
June 24, 1963 — March 7, 2026
Kevin D. Vejtasa, 62, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Altru Hospital, surrounded by family. Kevin was formerly of Adams, North Dakota.
Kevin was born June 24, 1963, to Don Vejtasa and Elizabeth (Sharon) Gunville. He entered the world alongside his twin brother, Craig — born just seven minutes apart — beginning a lifelong partnership that was double the mischief, double the laughter, and double the love. From doing handstands on their skateboards to speaking in their own “secret language,” the two shared a bond that was unmistakable and unbreakable.
Kevin was a man of many passions. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. His children remember waking up at 2 a.m. to go catfishing because “that’s when they were biting,” and they treasured those late‑night adventures so much they could hardly sleep beforehand. He loved to laugh, to tell stories, and to share the kind of trivia knowledge that made him unbeatable at Jeopardy.
Kevin was also a talented writer and artist. He filled notebooks with drawings, ideas, and reflections — pieces of himself he shared with those he loved. He was deeply proud of his family heritage and carried that pride with him throughout his life.
He loved to play pool, and when his back condition made it difficult to play in person, he turned to virtual pool, spending hours enjoying the game he loved in the way he still could. And throughout his life, he held a few close friendships that spanned decades as well as his closest lifelong friends, everyone will miss him dearly.
Kevin built countless memories with his children, grandchildren, family, and friends. He shared a special bond with his sons, Nick and Tyler. Nick and Kevin created a secret song together that only the two of them knew — and more than 20 years later, they could still sing it word for word. Tyler was Kevin’s best friend from the moment he was born, sharing a connection much like the one Kevin had with Craig.
Kevin loved being a grandfather and cherished every moment with his grandchildren and great‑granddaughter.
He is survived by his children Kelly, Jodi, Tyler, and Nick; his grandchildren Dylan (Maddy), Riley, Brayden, and Madison; his great‑granddaughter Grace; his mother Elizabeth (Sharon) Gunville; his sisters Tracie and Sherry Chapman; his aunt Gloria Brevik; his cousins Tammy Tate, Brandy & Aaron Oullette; and his many beloved nieces and nephews: Krystal Chapman; Devon & Megan Chapman; Lena Chapman; Kassandra & Corky Shaw; Jade & Adam Komanetz; and Dalton Vejtasa — and the many children they have brought into the world, a new generation Kevin loved watching grow.
Kevin loved all his nieces and nephews deeply — every single one. He celebrated their milestones, bragged about their accomplishments, and held each of them close to his heart.
He was preceded in death by his father Don Vejtasa; his sister Jeannie Chapman; his twin brother Craig; and his nephew Keith Chapman.
Kevin will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Many find comfort in knowing that Kevin and Craig are together again — two halves of a whole, reunited.
