Kevin's obituary
Kevin grew up in Des Plaines, IL and grew into a man known for his quiet strength and his gift for listening more than he talked. His squirrely grin made him instantly likeable, the kind of smile that told you he saw you, heard you, and welcomed you just as you were.
A hard worker in every season of life, he approached each day with humility and a willingness to serve. He gave far more than he ever asked for in return. He had a low tolerance for hypocrisy but extended grace more than most—especially to those others passed by. His patience was a refuge for many.
He loved nature in all its forms and never met a weed he didn’t like. Fishing was one of his great joys, even though the sea seemed determined to make him seasick every time. Still, he went anyway, because that’s who he was—someone who showed up, laughed at himself, and found beauty in the simple things.
To nonsense talk and gibberish, he was fond of saying, “Knock it off,” a phrase that became classic and a reminder of his grounded, good‑humored way of cutting through life’s clutter.
He is survived by his daughter, Krista (Aaron) Kregness, son, Brandon (Jessica) Sperling, granddaughters, Elise & Avery Sperling, siblings, Tom (Babs) Sperling, Chris Zemlik, Steve (Maria) Sperling, Carolyn Ranieri, Bob Sperling, and Debora (Tom) Swartz, who will carry his memory forward with love and grace. He will be missed now and forever.
May he rest in peace.
