Kent's obituary

Kent Gordon Zastrow, age 61, of Lake Placid, Florida, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 7, 2024, at HCA Highlands Hospital in Sebring, Florida. Though his passing was unexpected, we take comfort in knowing that he has entered into eternal rest in the loving arms of Jesus.

Kent was born on June 5, 1963, in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, to Gordon and Marilyn Zastrow (née Schroeder). He was welcomed into God’s family through Holy Baptism on June 30, 1963.

Kent had a deep love for the beauty of God's creation, which led him on many adventures throughout his life. He found peace in the outdoors—fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and camping—and in the quiet moments, he marveled at the handiwork of the Creator. His career as an OTR truck driver allowed him to witness the splendor of God’s world firsthand, a blessing he often spoke of with gratitude.

An avid reader and lifelong learner, Kent especially enjoyed studying history, finding connections between past and present that deepened his understanding of life. Music was another source of joy for him, often lifting his spirit and reminding him of God’s goodness. He possessed a unique gift of seeing the good in everyone, always willing to lend a helping hand or offer words of encouragement. Kent’s heart for others was evident in the way he shared the love of Jesus, often going out of his way to care for those in need. His faith was not just something he believed—it was something he lived out daily.

Kent is survived by his beloved wife, Brenda; his cherished daughters, Deanna (Clark) Newell, Mahalah Zastrow, and Kentlynn Zastrow; and his treasured granddaughters, Stella Rose and Addison. He is also survived by his stepson, Gary (Darren) M; his loving siblings, Maureen (Dave) Rochester, Rhonda Kleizo, Kevin (Renee) Zastrow, and Janelle (Nathan) Fredrick; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon Donald Zastrow and Marilyn Loy Zastrow (née Schroeder). While we mourn his earthly absence, we rejoice in the hope of resurrection, knowing we will see him again in Heaven.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Florida State Parks Foundation, in honor of Kent’s deep love for Florida’s natural beauty and his desire for others to experience and appreciate the wonders of the outdoors that brought him such peace and joy.

A celebration of Kent’s life and faith will take place on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 11 a.m. at King of Kings Lutheran Church (1101 Wymore Rd., Maitland, FL 32751). We invite all who knew and loved Kent to join us as we remember the blessings of his life and find comfort in the promise of eternal life through Christ.
