Kenneth's obituary
Kenneth "Suds" Sutherland (62) of the Bronx NY, peacefully passed away on March 4, 2023 surrounded by his family.
Born October 4, 1960, the third child of Norman and Elizabeth Sutherland. He joined older siblings Scott and Patricia; later becoming a big brother to Teresa. The son of first generation Americans, a Protestant Highland Scot Father and an Irish Catholic Mother. He hailed from a large and boisterous mixture of Clans and true to culture and tradition; he remained close to his family for all of his life.
Kenny met and married his wife of almost 40 years while they were both enlisted in the Navy and stationed together at Naval Air Station (NAS) Kingsville, TX. His absolute favorite love story was his own, he often repeated it by heart. Kenny is survived by his Widow, Chelle Ashley Sutherland.
Father to 3, he leaves behind a son and 2 daughters. Ashley (Caleb) Launtz, Kerry Sutherland and Julie (Pratik) Sutherland. Beloved and much missed Popa to his only grandchildren, Shelby and Genevieve Launtz.
Kenny’s life was too big, too interesting, too rich and full to be rendered properly. He was the funniest person ever. A no nonsense New Yorker who backed down from nothing. A City boy turned Country. He was a lifelong fly fisherman, an avid boat enthusiast and the last John Wayne.
He’ll be remembered for his deep voice, booming laugh, wicked green eyes and because it felt as though time itself stood still when you had his full attention. He never met a stranger, never turned down a beer or missed a chance to dance.
Kenny made his famous pasta sauce every Sunday and sometimes on certain holidays. It was literal culinary perfection; his own secret recipe and I don’t think anyone knows how to make it. I’m glad for that, nothing will ever compare.
Kenny kept his promises, he was a great friend and a good boss. In the Navy he was given the call sign “Suds”, which came with a very good story. He had a notable career with the Department of Defense; supporting the Warfighter Mission for 2 decades. The entirety of his professional life was spent in the service of the United States and her people.
Kenny was so loud and rare and wild; he was supposed to live forever. The world is a much smaller, quieter place without him. This is such a loss.
It was an honor to know him and a privilege to love him.
May he rest in grace and peace at the right hand of God.
Until we meet again.
