Sonny's obituary
Sonny Showen passed peacefully in his sleep in his Fort Wayne, IN home on April 28th, 2022, after 74 Years, 5 Months and 27 Days of life on this earth. Sonny was born to Kenneth & Donna Showen on October 25th, 1947, in Marion, IN.
Sonny attended Marion High School, enlisted in the Army in 1965, and served with the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, KY. During his time in Kentucky, Sonny would become a father to Kenneth (Kevin) R Showen III and Kris Showen (Fran). After coming back home to Indiana, Sonny opened a pool hall in Marion where relatives and a host of locals would shoot pool and play pinball. Over the next several years, Sonny would bounce between Marion and Fort Wayne where he would father two more children, Sean Goins & Sarah Goins (Joyce). In the late 80’s Sonny would eventually settle down with his wife of nearly 30 Years, Betty, where he spent the majority of his career in the automobile dealership industry.
Sonny enjoyed playing guitar & harmonica and partook in many backyard or living room jam sessions with his Brothers, Cousins, and friends. He was also an avid Bass Angler that liked to tell tall tales about this “big one” that got away. Sonny really took pleasure in camping because he could blend these two by fishing during the day and jamming around the campfire at night. From November until March of every year, Sonny would root on his beloved IU Hoosiers. In his later years, due to not being able to physically play the guitar any longer, he really enjoyed collecting & selling sheet music and other memorabilia at auction.
After a tough last 10 years with severe neck and spine pain, Sonny was confident he would be welcomed home pain free by his Creator, Father and Lord, Jesus Christ!
Sonny was preceded in death by his Father, Kenneth “Kenny” R. Showen Sr, his Brother’s Ronald “Ronnie” K. Showen, and Randell “Randy” D. Showen. Sonny is survived by his son Kenneth “Kevin” R. Showen III, daughter Kris Showen, son Sean Goins (Tiffany), daughter Sarah Goins, mother Donna L Showen, brothers Jerry Showen (Sandy) & Danny Showen, sisters Pam Showen & Debbie Bishop (Jack), 8 Grandchildren, 7 Great-Grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Sonny’s will be interned at the National Cemetery in Marion Indiana, and a celebration of life will be determined at a later date and time.
