Kenneth's obituary
Kenneth Robert Johnson, 81, of Greenville, California, passed away on December 2, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. The oldest of five children, he was born in Bakersfield, California on August 24, 1942. Ken was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend who leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and service.
Ken is survived by his beloved wife, Jacqueline Johnson, mother to Traci De St. Aubin, Lori De St. Aubin, Joseph De St. Aubin, Janell Yokum, James Harlan and Elizabeth Johnson and his former wife, Saundra Johnson, mother to Laura Johnson and Deborah Green, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Papa”. Ken was preceded in death by his parents John Johnson and Wilma Dennis, bother David Johnson and children Traci and James.
Ken’s professional life spanned more than 35 years with Union Pacific Railroad, where he worked diligently to support his family. His expertise in the railroad industry led him to a second career with the Department of Transportation, where he served as an inspector for over a decade ensuring safety and reliability in rail transport.
Beyond his career, Ken had a passion for speed, particularly in motorcycle racing. He earned multiple flat track titles and trophies, demonstrating both skill and determination. He also took great joy in watching children smile, especially during his visits to Disneyland with his family.
Ken’s love for his family was matched by his love for the community. After the town of Greenville was devastated by fire, he became a pillar of support, volunteering countless hours at the local resource center, food pantry, museum, community suppers and church events.
Above all, Ken was a man who could always be relied upon. Whether it was in a time of crisis or simply offering a helping hand, he was the first person you would call in an emergency. His selflessness and generosity extended well beyond his family and left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Ken will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of kindness, integrity, and love will live on in the hearts of his family, friends and the community he so lovingly served.
Ken has been laid to rest in Greenville Cemetery, Greenville, California.
