Ken's obituary
Kenneth "Ken" Ray Collier, 85, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on August 12, 2025.
Ken was born on October 16, 1939, to Dewey and Ida Collier in Cumberland, Kentucky. After graduating from Cumberland High School in 1957, he attended the University of Georgia. He graduated in 1964 with a B.S. in Agricultural Economics. His move to Athens proved to be a great decision! He hunkered down and became more serious about his academics, but he also had some fun as a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. Perhaps the most important event of all was the day he met his wife, Patricia "Patsy" Montgomery, when he picked her up in his new car while she was hitchhiking on the UGA campus. Shortly after, they had their first date and then were wed in August 1963. They were married just shy of 35 years, until her passing in 1998. The couple welcomed three children: Martin, Wynn, and Courtney.
Ken & Pat decided to settle in Atlanta, Georgia, where Ken first worked for a commercial insurance firm and a land development company. He worked for a group of builders who tasked him with purchasing and developing a 40-acre property that would become the Woodsong neighborhood. It was during this time that he started his own business, Collier Homes. Upon realizing what a great neighborhood it would be to raise a family, they decided to build their first custom home. Neighbors quickly became friends and have remained such for over 50 years!
Ken was an adventure seeker and a passionate traveler. From his summer in Alaska in 1960 to his solo trip to Antarctica, he visited 50 countries and all 50 states. He took flying lessons and spent many years sailing and traveling around the world. He would often remind those around him that it is not where you travel, but instead discovering all the beauty and uniqueness along the way. The journey is more than the destination.
Ken was always ready to embrace you with a big hug, and his great sense of humor, smile, and infectious laugh will always be remembered.
Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia "Patsy" Collier; his mother and father, Dewey, and Ida Collier; his sister, Jennia Lee Collier; and his daughter-in-law, Patricia "Trish" Collier. His children survive him; Martin Collier, Wynn McKee (Mike), and Courtney Skinn (Allen), and forever cherished and remembered by his six grandchildren, Kathryn Skinn Voelker (Noah), Collier Skinn, Carson Skinn (Julie), Emery McKee, Patrick McKee, and Connor McKee, and his three great grandchildren, Charlie and Crosby Voelker and Everleigh Skinn.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on October 17, 2025, at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, Georgia. Afterward, the family would like to extend an invitation for a celebration of his life and legacy at the home of Anne & Roger Bridges.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
