Kenn's obituary

Kenneth "Kenn" Wayne Brown departed this world on Tuesday, December 22, 2020. He was a veteran, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many and he will be deeply missed.

Kenn was born September 4, 1957, in Cullman, Alabama, to Bennie and Annie Lee (Kritner) Brown, one of 10 children. The passing of his dearly beloved Mother at 14 years old left him and his siblings to personal challenges, one that impacted him throughout his entire life. Fortunately, Kenn and his younger siblings were raised by his loving brother, Al, and sister-in-law, Jan. Kenn’s formidable years were spent growing up in Waverly, Alabama. Days after graduating from Dadeville High School in 1977, Kenn enlisted in the United States Navy and his life took a new direction and renewed hope. His first duty among many was aboard the USS Vulcan AR5 in Norfolk, Virginia.

During his time in the Navy, Kenn traveled extensively across Europe, South America, and the Caribbean. Kenn received numerous commendations and awards while serving in his military tenure, highlighted by his nomination as Sailor of the Quarter for Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Florida. Kenn often commented throughout his life that joining the United States Navy was the single best decision he ever made. Kenn served with pride, honor, and distinction.

In 1984, while stationed in Key West, Kenn met Amy Morejon and they would marry and have two children, Adrian and Annie. Even though their marriage would end in a divorce, Kenn and Amy eventually became the best of friends. Kenn was a proud father who sacrificed and shared his deep love for his children until the end. It was one of his greatest sources of pride to see his children grow to have loving families of their own. In 2013, Kenn met Darren Kettles. Darren was Kenn’s rock!

Following retirement, Kenn continued to serve his military family with extensive volunteering on their behalf. His deep knowledge of veterans issues, passion for the military, and regard for his fellow men and women in uniform led him to serve as President and Treasurer of the Pinellas County Veterans Council. Kenn was honored with the Sergeant Cook Award for his outstanding service to veterans.

In 2015, Kenn became a grandfather and his love for his grandchildren could not be measured. His grandchildren became the loves of his life and collectively brought him incredible happiness.

Kenn's many great stories, his laugh and smile, his love for Alabama Crimson Tide football, and his great love for his family will all be greatly missed. He will be remembered by his loved ones; Darren Kettles; his son, Adrian Leblanc (Korili); his daughter, Annie Lee Governale (Jean-Claude); his grandchildren Kayden, Tristan, Zayn, and Silas; his ex-wife and friend, Amarilis "Amy" Noa and her sons, Duviel and Daniel; his siblings James "Jim" Robert Brown, William "Buck" Dennis Brown (Peggy), Faye Nelle Roy (Joe), Maye Belle Riddle (Mike), Becky Marie Erdey (Raymond) and Billy Ray Brown (Donna); his sister-in-law, Jan Baker; and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Kenn was predeceased by his father, Benjamin "Bennie" Henry Brown; his mother, Annie Lee Clayton; his brother, Alfred "Al" Franklin Baker; his sisters Shirley Temple Martin and Mary "Meg" Magaline King; and his ex-father-in-law, Tomas Morejon.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in Kenn's name to the Pinellas County Veterans Council. There will be a ceremony at Veterans Funeral Care on Friday, February 5, 2021 at 10:30 AM in Clearwater, Florida followed by a military service at 12:30 PM at Bay Pines National Cemetery in St. Petersburg, Florida. Please contact Kenn's daughter, Annie Governale, if you wish to attend in person or need to attend virtually by February 1, 2021.

Fly, free bird, fly. You remain always in our hearts.
