I was not shocked when Ken's wife, Wendy, announced the news of Ken's rapidly failing and life-threatening health. The announcement said that he had "suddenly and unexpectedly" fell ill and was taken to ER hospital care. The diagnosis was failing kidney and liver functions with a 1% chance of recovery. All of us were absolutely heartbroken to hear this of Ken because we knew and loved him for a million reasons. But because we knew him we should not be surprised how alcohol consumption can slowly take the life of a chronic longtime consumer. Ken was fun and hard working but we also knew he drank, sometimes excessively. It is not humanly possible for kidney and liver failure to "suddenly and unexpectedly" set in. The signs were always there yet those most close to Ken didn't recognize them enough with the will to intervene, then it was too late. We will miss him with our many many fond memories of him but it will never soften his passing to explain it away by not honestly recognizing how he was taken too soon.
