Kelvin was an avid cyclist who got me involved in the sport. While living in the Chicagoland area we would often ride in various locations on the weekend.

Kelvin was a far better cyclist than me, keep that in mind as I continue my favorite Kelvin story.

One Sunday after Church we did the infamous Lake Shore Drive bike ride. It start on the South Side of The Chicago lake front and spans the entire lakeshore culminating on the Northside of Chicago.

On the return leg I guess Kelvin grew tired of cycling at my speed so dude just takes off without saying a word.

Now, my first response was one of anger for dude just leaving me but I quickly got over it and realized two things:

1) Kelvin was doing me a favor, to push myself to take it to the next level

2) Kelvin only had so much patience and was just keeping it real.

I will forever cherish the friendship Kelvin and I had. He was one of the few AA Conservative voices I knew personally.

Kelvin was the dude you want in your foxhole when the bullets started flying.

We had many a great conversations on that bike ride. I didn’t really realize Kelvin was a full nine years older than me and considered me his little brother (Daise shared that with me after Kelvin passed).

I am a better, critically thinking Evangelical because of Kelvin. I traveled on a moment’s notice to attend his service today.

Don't get it twisted! Me doing so says more about Kelvin Johnson than it ever would about Ricky Kyles.

I have no idea if there will be bikes in heaven or if we would even be interested in such an activity. One thing I do know is that time will no longer be a hindrance.

With fear & trembling,

Ricky V Kyles Sr DEd.Min

Will always remember Kelvin’s hugs and smiles…..a gentle giant of a man who will be sorely missed by all!

Sorry for the loss of your dad, I'm praying for you all.

My heart breaks for the family Kathy! May God bless you!
Kathy, condolences and prayers to you and your family on the loss of your Father, may the memories created over the years comfort you all in the days to come.
I'm shocked and saddened for your loss. Everybody knows how much Kelvin loved you Daise as well as your family. Stay strong. You can do it. You're going to find yourself smiling about all the little things about Kelvin, as your heart heals while the days go by.  He wants you happy and healthy and that is ahead for you. With best wishes for your future, from Sharon Terrell.

My prayers go out to the Johnson family. I am going to miss my Brother in the lord. The First time I met Kelvin, we played basketball together at the church. And that night He happened to break his leg, he was on my team and I asked for his  number  to pray with him for his recovery and ever since then we had been close. We also served on the user board together. You will be greatly missed my brother. 💯❤️🙏🏾🙌🏾
Kelvin was a kind man and a loving husband. He always spoke well of his beloved Daise, and made sure to show her off. He will be so missed. Condolences to Daise and all his family.
My heart breaks. He was such a beautiful soul and I will miss his kind hugs every Sunday.  Rest easy my brother in Christ.
Dearest Daise (Carly, Kendra, Paul, and extended family), I am so sorry for your loss! Kelvin was a loving husband and father, a kind soul, extremely intelligent, and a dear brother in the Lord! I love you all and am praying for you.

May the love and peace of God be with the family!  I knew Kelvin for a long time through his wife, Daise. He was truly a gentle giant, and one that loved to take care of his family.

Have fond memories of Kelvin. Although I only had the opportunity to know him through ushering at our church, he always greeted me like I was his best friend. The church and his family has lost a great man but heaven has gained a faithful follower of Christ. Praying that God will bring comfort and peace to his family during this time.
