Kelly's obituary

Kelly Ann Schommer

March 30, 1963 – April 2, 2024

We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of Kelly Ann Schommer on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024 at the age of 61 years. Kelly was born on March 30th, 1963, the first child of Dennis and Patricia Schommer. Kelly married Steven Sherman and together, the two share two kind and wonderful children, Jonathan and Mary Sherman, and one precious grandson, Theo Sherman.

Kelly, a caretaker from birth, spent the majority of her life tending to and caring for those around her. Deeply devoted and inspired by her Catholic faith, Kelly made certain to embody the love of the Holy Spirit as a daughter, sister, mother and grand-mother. In addition to her warm and playful spirit, Kelly had an incredible ability to imagine, dream and hope. She was a gifted artist; not only demonstrated through the hand-sewn fashions she made for herself, but through her eloquent poetry, unique story-lines and depth of imagination.

Kelly is lovingly embraced by her father, Dennis Schommer, who passed January 13th of this year. She will be remembered by her mother, Patricia Schommer of Port Sanilac; ex-husband, Steven Sherman; three siblings, Michael & Tarah Schommer, Teresa & Bill James, Matthew Schommer; two children, Jonathan & Rianne Sherman, Mary Sherman; eight nieces and nephews, Veronica Schommer, Max Schommer, Gemma James, Leo Schommer, Genevieve Schommer, Augustine Schommer, Benedict Schommer, Ambrose Schommer; one grandson, Theo Sherman, and the many lives she touched with her loving spirit.

Visitation will be from 9 A.M. – 11 A.M. on Tuesday, April 9th at the Ave Maria Parish – St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Port Sanilac. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 A.M. A luncheon will be held immediately after the mass in the St. Mary’s Center. Inurnment will take place alongside her father, Dennis Schommer, in the near future in the Old St. Mary’s Cemetery in Port Sanilac.

“Hope is not, has not, and will never be foolish.”
