I have many memories with Kelly as a kid. I loved to give him rides on my cool big wheeled tricycle. We also played in our tree fort behind our house and pretended to go fishing in the irrigation run off water. We would get so mad when the cows would walk through our fort and ruin it. We played lots of cowboys and Indians in the barn. We would swing on our swing set, play cars and trucks and build roads in our tractor tire sand box. We would investigate the old abandoned house down our driveway and the pastures around our house. Sometimes when it was really hot in the summer, we would swim in the dam close to our house with Mom and Dad and we would get leaches on us. We helped Mom and Dad with the garden, and helped tip green beans and pod peas. We also liked to get clay from the hillsides down the road and make clay pots. One time when I was in grade school, Dad sent us out in the pick-up by ourselves to irrigate. I got so nervous rounding a corner of the pasture that I drove the pick-up right in a culvert. I’m sure Kelly was scared. LOL! Kelly was my side-kick from when he was born, all throughout my grade school years. ❤️

My Brother Kelly....
He was a force to be reckoned with. He was very strong in all ways, mind and body. He was strong willed. He was protective. His personality was powerful, but he also had a sensitive side that few saw. He really loved to do things for us, for Kristen, and for his kids. He planned a trip for all of us to go to Yellowstone 2 years ago, and he was so proud of what he put together for us. He was very giving. He always liked to give people nice gifts or buy them dinner. Even though he could fill the room and shine when he was around people, he really was an introvert and liked his alone, quiet time. He had to be tough being around animals all of the time, but he had a soft heart for them. He worked very hard to give his family everything he could. He was intelligent. He loved to be funny and laugh. He was very caring for Mom and Dad. He called them almost every night at 9:00. He always said Dad was his best friend. He loved to have coffee and eat lunch with Mom and Dad during the week, and he loved to have holiday dinners with all of us. He was very stressed and worried for Mom and Dad when he knew they had Covid, and he called and checked on them several times a day, even when he had Covid himself. When he was very sick in the hospital, he told them he would be just fine, he just needed to rest a little. His last words to them before he went on the ventilator were, I love you Mom, I love you Dad.
We love you Kelly! Our family will never be the same without you here. Fly high sweet little brother. Until we see you again, we will hold you close to our hearts.

Kelly, as hard and unimaginable as your passing has been, I hold on to all of the fun and happy memories we had growing up together. There are so many memories of us together only being 2 years apart. From playing trucks in the dirt, to cowboys and Indians and making forts in the back trees. I was your little side kick. You were my protector through high school and I always remember how proud I was of you as you belted out those solos in band and chorus. You had such an amazing voice! And boy could you play that trombone! We worked so hard together helping dad on the farm irrigating, chopping cedar trees, spraying musk thistle, building fence, driving grain trucks and grain cart, and swimming out to flip over that irrigation pump in the middle of the pond and getting out with leaches on us. You taught me to be tough and I always remember how proud you were of me. I remember how much you loved listening to music and how proud you were of that stereo system in your car. You could hear that base from a mile away. You always wanted me to listen along to your favorite songs which was a lot of Aerosmith, Godsmack and Metallica back in the high school days and just remember everything vibrating from all of that base. I’m not sure how our ears didn’t burst from it. We had lots of special family time together with cousins sledding and ice skating in the pastures, celebrating birthdays with homemade ice cream, holiday Christmases and Easter egg hunts. We also took lots of family vacations crammed in the back seat of the car. I’ll never forget having to sit in the middle and you always thought it was annoying if our shoulders were touching. We got to see some amazing places together though. We had so much fun being in each other’s weddings and I was so happy when you finally married your high school sweet heart! Kristen has been an amazing sister-in-law and is a very special part of our family. It has been so fun raising our kids together and carrying on a lot of the same traditions we had when we were growing up and getting to go on some amazing family vacations together these past years with our kids to the Black Hills, Yellowstone and just this last year to California. You have been an amazing brother and father to your 4 beautiful children. I am so proud of you and all of the things you have accomplished in your short life. I love and miss you so much but know you are watching over us and are waiting for us up in heaven! Until I see you again sweet brother of mine…

I have the best memories when Kelly and I were little. We were the best of friends and I looked up to my older brother. He taught me how to play football, play darts, and the two of us would gang up on my sister Amber (Kelly always instigated it;)). Together the 3 of us had a fort we played in, had lots of fun on the holidays with Easter egg decorations and preparing for Santa, and loved taking care of our dogs Snickers, Peaches, Bud, and Snoopy. We both loved strategy games and he gave me his Sega Genesis and his Nintendo with a game called The Romance of The Three Kingdoms. Both of us were addicted to that game. I still have the Nintendo he gave me.
I was 7 or 8 when my brother became a teenager and naturally his interests changed and he was more involved with school activities and his friends. Although as we got older Kelly and I shared interests that were unique to us. We both love to cook and experiment with recipes, garden (although he was much better at it), and play strategy games. Family holidays, events, and travel will never be quite the same and he will always be missed. However when I see his daughter and my son playing together I will always remember my 1st best friend.
