Kelli's obituary

On Wednesday morning, March 22nd, 2023, Kelli Jo Dixon, loving mother and friend passed away at the young age of 54. After a two and half year battle with cancer, she passed peacefully surrounded by love.

Kelli was born June 13,1968 in Olympia, Washington to Jim & Judi Nelson. She graduated from Capital High School in the class of 1986. She took some time after high school and moved to California, eventually making her way back up to the Northwest. Kelli married in her early twenties and was blessed her only child, a daughter, Chenoa Dixon. If you knew Kelli, you would often hear her say with pride,  “She’s my life!”  Chenoa grew up with her mom and best friend helping her navigate life.  From pre-school parties to planning Chenoa’s  upcoming wedding, Kelli’s love and zest for life was infectious.

In addition to raising Chenoa, she made had career working at Washington Business Week for over a decade. Later she committed 15 years as an IT specialist for the State of Washington in the Office of Financial Management.  Her coworkers were not only friends but became a second family.

Throughout her life Kelli’s passion of the outdoors led her to many adventures.  Taking a road trip to hike and discover the beautiful Northwest, was one of her favorite things.  Countless hours were spent with those she loved in nature. She was an avid volunteer who loved helping others. Because of her love for running, Capital City Marathon was a perfect fit for several years.  After her cancer diagnosis, a charity called Harmony Hill offered a retreat for those dealing with cancer as well as caregivers supporting them. The compassionate  experience and friendships led her to offer the same support for those following in her footsteps.

Kelli was known for her quick wit, her infectious smile, the infamous laugh-snort, and of course her kind and compassionate spirit. The love she shared with family and friends lives on. Kelli was preceded in death by her father, Jim Nelson. She is survived by her daughter, Chenoa Dixon and her fiancé, Jose Aviña, her mother Judi Nelson, her sisters Traci & Paige, her brothers PJ & Geoff, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, June 11th, 2023 at Copper Crest Venue in Eatonville at 3pm.

Please wear  bright colors, as that is how we will remember her and what she would have wanted. We look forward to sharing the love we had in common for Kelli and taking this time to celebrate her life will be a happy experience. Please bring funny stories and any pictures to share how she touched your life. Don’t be afraid to bring some Bud Light to raise your can to the heavens as we honor a life well lived.

Please contact Chenoa to RSVP and also name a song that reminds you of Kelli or a time you have had together - you know she’d want some killer tunes & this will be the best playlist yet.

If donations are wanted to be made, it would gladly be encouraged for it to be towards Harmony Hill or cancer research.
