Keith's obituary
Keith Lauer, passed away at home surrounded by his wife, son and extended family on April 29, 2024.
Keith was a gardener, a golfer, a fisherman, a foodie, an adventurer, a joker, a volunteer, a painter, a car lover, a Duke Tomato fan, and a storyteller. His story is too big and bright for this page, so we will celebrate it with memory, music, and prayer on Thursday May 2nd at New Freedom Church (6210 Mountain Rd, Coloma, MI 49038) starting with a visitation at 2pm and a memorial service and dinner following at 3 and 4 pm, respectively. The family then encourages you to do a sunset send-off on Lake Michigan or another lake on your own where Keith so often loved to finish his day with those he leaves behind including:
His wife, best friend, and partner of 12 years, Tammy, who he married in a sweet Godly ceremony with their flower dog and fur-baby, Scarlett, on May 1, 2022, in Coloma, Michigan. Her children, Hattie Scruggs, Dana Current (Edward Contreras), and Andrew Kelly (Mandy), and many grandkids Raine, Cameron, Cole, Skylar, Mason, and Emma, and large extended family; His cherished cousins Donna, Jim, Barb, and Tammy, Uncle Moose, and stepmother, Carla Lauer; The Roberts Family, and his church families at New Freedom and Lake Michigan Beach Community Churches.
He was an only child, but he had “brothers from another mother” since a young age and until this day that he leaves behind in Dale, Paul G., Ray, Paul W., Dave, and Dean as well as his brothers of American Legion Post 49.
His University of Michigan care team, Dr. Monalisa Ghosh, Gretchen, and numerous nurse angels that his family can never thank enough for his care... although he did bring you jars of pickles.
Finally, he leaves behind the people who made him “Dad”: Christopher, with the same humor and sense of adventure; Melaina (Lorenzo), his fellow foodie and who made him “Grandpa” to Kyin, Zoey, and Zaria; and MacKenzie (Nigel), his concert and Chicago Bear’s buddy.
Keith left many behind but he never left his faith in God during this five year fight against Diffused Large B-Cell Lymphoma. He believed in the answer of prayer and unexpected kindnesses. So, we expect he’s trying to play pool with Jesus saying call me “Earl LaRue” while his Dad, Mom, Marty, Cheryl, Aunt Dorothy, Aunt Helen, and Aunt Marilou cheer him on at their heavenly reunion.
