Keith's obituary
Keith Jones, affectionately known as “Papa” to his beloved grandchildren, passed away peacefully at home in Virginia on April 21, 2025. He was 68 years old.
Born on March 7, 1957, in San Diego, California, Keith was the eldest of five children born to Robert and Shirley Jones. He spent much of his childhood in Hawaii, surrounded by a large family, before later moving to California. That early foundation of family connection shaped his values throughout life.
Keith dedicated more than four decades to public service and leadership in the field of tax administration. He retired in 2023, following a successful tenure supporting the PwC Tax Controversy practice since 2012. Prior to joining PwC, he served over 30 years with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), including 15 years as an Executive-level manager.
In retirement, Keith became an enthusiastic world traveler, exploring the globe with Karen and their close-knit group of travel friends. Whether skiing the slopes, sharing stories at family gatherings, or simply spending time with his grandchildren, Keith created a legacy defined by love, loyalty, and dedication.
Known for his tireless work ethic, Keith pursued his personal goals with the same passion and consistency that he devoted to his professional life. His greatest ambition was to build a large, close-knit family—a dream he fully realized and cherished deeply. He was a man of routine and structure, but he always had a soft spot for his grandchildren, with whom he shared countless joyful moments.
Keith is survived by his devoted wife, Karen Jones, and their children: Kevin Jones (Kristin), Kyle Jones (Nicole), Katie Devlin (Dan), and Kristy Huang (Shane). He was a proud grandfather to Morrison Devlin, Kaleb Jones, Claire Devlin, Kameron Jones, Olivia Jones, Della Huang, Maya Jones, and William Huang. He is also survived by his mother, Shirley Thompson, and siblings Ray Jones, Terri Martinez, Roxanne Pele, and Rhonda Steiner. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Jones.
His consistency, his calm presence, and the quiet strength he brought to those around him will be deeply missed.
A private celebration of life will be held to honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Keith’s name to No Kid Hungry.
