Keith's obituary
Keith Colin Getz, 70, of Delmar, passed away on October 22nd following a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Keith was born on May 5, 1954 in Albany, NY, to Colin and Delma Getz.
Keith met the love of his life and beloved wife, Nancy of 47 years. Together they settled in Bethlehem, NY and had 3 children. He was a devoted family man, who spent every moment of his life at family activities or working to improve the lives of those around him.
Keith was known for his incredibly positive attitude, a love of life and a work ethic admired by all. A fixture in local youth sports, he left a mark on anyone he encountered through participating, coaching and cheering. Keith was an avid baseball player, and a great pitcher. He also played 3rd base for the Delmar Derelicts, some of his lifelong friends. He found great joy in cheering on his favorite teams, the Rangers and Yankees. In his final years he lived to watch his grandchildren in their athletic endeavors.
Before retiring early at age 52 to begin to the battle with Parkinson’s, Keith had a career at Niagara Mohawk as a construction rigger. He loved his job, coworkers and could often be seen scaling tall utility towers with no worries.
The family would like to thank the many nurses and aides at Shaker Place for taking such great care of him in his final months.
Keith was predeceased by his parents Colin and Delma, and his brother Douglas.
He is survived by his wife: Nancy Getz, his sister: Diana Getz (Carl), his children: Keith Getz (Shirley), Carrie Sollien (Matthew) and Kathleen Getz Turner (Jonathan), and his grandchildren: Brynn Sollien, Bryan Sollien and Ellie Turner, along with many nieces and nephews who loved him.
Visitation will be held at Durant Funeral Home on November 9th from 2 to 4 with a small service following at 4. The family looks forward to hearing from others who can share stories celebrating Keith’s life during this service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either the Pakinson’s Foundation or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
