Katie Baskette Kowal was born in TN but grew up in Winthrop MA. She was the daughter of Earl Lee Baskette (d) and Helen (Ferrant) Baskette (d) and was the oldest of eight siblings (Alice Rettagliati, Carolyne Baskette, Walter Baskette (d), Elizabeth Laub, Susan Richards, Donna Baskette (d) and David Baskette). She was the beloved mother of Brian Kowal (d) and Heather Kowal.

Katie graduated from Winthrop High School in 1964 and served in the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1966 as a Medic and Surgical Tech. She later worked as a Stitcher in design workrooms for over 30 years.

She joined the American Legion in 1987 and served as a Commander for 3 years. She later joined the Winthrop Emblem Club in 1994 and served as President for 3 years.

She is survived by many nieces, nephews as well as great nieces and nephews and many long-time friends.

There will be no services and Katie’s ashes were spread at sea as she loved the ocean.
