Kathy Ann Shanafelt
February 21, 1944 – September 28, 2025
Kathy Ann Shanafelt passed away peacefully on September 28, 2025, at the age of 81, while residing in Peoria, Arizona. She was born on February 21, 1944, in Denver, Colorado.
Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Patricia Davis; her identical twin sister, Diana “Dani” Hall; and her infant brother, Jackie Davis.
Kathy spent most of her life in Seattle, Washington. She graduated from Queen Anne High School and went on to earn a degree in Education from the University of Washington, where she also cheered proudly as a Husky cheerleader. She later completed a Montessori certification and dedicated her career to teaching. Kathy served in various roles, Seattle Public Schools, including High Point Elementary, Marymoor Montessori, and Northshore Junior High in the Northshore School District.
In 1966, Kathy married her high school sweetheart, Richard “Dick” Shanafelt. Together, they built a loving home and family, welcoming their daughter Heidi in 1969, followed by their son Tait in 1971.
Kathy was a vivacious and dynamic presence—known for her energy, warmth, and unshakable spirit. A natural encourager, she was the consummate cheerleader not only on the sidelines but also in life, always uplifting her family and friends. Her beauty radiated from the inside out, fueled by a deep love for God and an unwavering commitment to serving others.
Her home was a place of refuge and welcome, always open to those in need. Kathy’s faith was central to her life, and she joyfully served in ministry, including leadership roles in Community Bible Study. She shared her faith boldly, encouraging others to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
Kathy is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Richard Shanafelt; her daughter, Heidi Mills (Shanafelt); her son, Tait Shanafelt; son-in-law, Mark Mills; daughter-in-law, Jaci Shanafelt; her beloved grandchildren, McKenzie Gale (Mils) and Maquel Lundberg (Mills), and Kennedy, Grant, Tyler, and Evie Shanafelt. She is also survived by her dear sister, Susie Tuman.
Kathy leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and generosity. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew her.
