Kathy's obituary

In grief for our loss and in gratitude for a life well lived, the family of Kathryn Louise Hargraves Wilson announces her passing on January 8, 2026, at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital in Oakville, Ontario. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Kaleigh and Nick Fylstra of Calgary, her son, Spencer Wilson of Toronto, her sister and brother-in-law Paula and James Brown of Baden, Ontario, her brother and sister-in-law Steven and Cheryl Hargraves of London, Ontario, and her best friend Jayne Danenburg Sawyer and husband Jim of Daytona Beach, Florida.

Kathy was the loving aunt of Graham (Julie) and Christopher Brown (Carly Payton), Brent Hargraves, Sarah (Arvin) Carandang, Warren (Ellen) Hargraves, and great aunt of Miller and Hallie Hargraves. She was predeceased by her former husband Andrew Wilson, nephew Cory Hargraves, and parents Joan (Hutton) and Ken Hargraves.

Kathy was born in Toronto on May 22, 1957, grew up in London, and graduated from Principia College in Elsah, Illinois and the Faculty of Education, UWO. Kathy taught elementary school in Los Angeles, London, and Oakville, but upon the birth of Kaleigh and later Spencer, her vocation was mother and homemaker. She and Andy were devoted and loving parents.

When Kaleigh and Spencer finished school and left home, Kathy enjoyed working at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, Write Impressions, and volunteering at Lighthouse For Grieving Children and Families. She was also a valued member of the community of art students taught by Sybil Rampen at Joshua Farm Gallery, Oakville. Kathy loved music and sang in Tempus Choral Society ‘s Adult Choir and with the Milton Choristers. She was also a member of the Canadian Federation of University Women, Oakville.

Always a seeker, Kathy began life as a Christian Scientist, later following the writings of Joel Goldsmith, and eventually finding home in the community of the Unity Church, Daytona Beach.

Kathy’s inquiring mind and love of people stood at the centre of her many friendships. Her inner strength and faith in the power and sufficiency of love equipped her to face challenges squarely and rise above disappointment and adversity. Grace, beauty, joy, and an understanding heart were gifts Kathy brought to every conversation, every relationship.

As difficult as it has been to accept Kathy’s loss, her love for her family and friends, and the love we continue to hold for her bring us comfort and bless our memories.

We give thanks for the love and care that surrounded Kathy during her final illness, especially those who sent greetings of encouragement and supported her in prayer. We are also indebted to the members of the healthcare team at Oakville Trafalgar for their compassion, sensitivity, and skill.
