Katie's obituary

Kathryn "Katie" Janell Gunser, age 66, of Levittown, Pennsylvania, passed away on March 14, 2021 after a month-long battle with cancer.

Katie was born on January 15, 1955 to Paul and Jeann Hudson in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Growing up in a military family, she moved quite a bit and spent time living in Japan and Germany. She graduated from Robert E. Peary High School in Rockville, Maryland in 1973.

In 1978, Katie married the love of her life, William "Tony" Trenda and they had two children: Natalie Nicole and James Edward. After Tony's passing in 1993, she devoted all her time and energy to becoming Super Mom to her children before falling in love again and marrying James Gunser in 2007.

Katie was a beloved member of her church community, volunteering as a teacher, mentor, and choir member. Her superior organizational and management skills led her into a successful 34-year career in administration. Most recently, she was a devoted and exemplary team member at ICON in North Wales, PA, supporting a myriad of healthcare projects.

Katie loved to sing and spent her last days singing Lauren Daigle songs with her sister, Jami, in the hospital. She was extraordinarily creative and known for turning out masterpieces on her embroidery machine, which she gifted to family and friends for birthdays, holidays or just because. She was proudly known as the "Gadget Queen" of the family; always finding handy gadgets to give as gifts. She was an avid collector of Boyds Bears and children's books. And she loved to clean and organize, traits that came in handy when she visited her children or her mother or sisters. One of Katie’s lesser-known hobbies was writing poetry.

Katie was a proud mom and Grandma (AKA "Bahnya) to five grandchildren. She adored her three younger sisters and cherished time spent with her nieces and nephews. She was as close to her mother as a daughter could be. And she was a devoted friend, regularly making time for her best friends through weekly Facetime calls.

Katie leaves behind a legacy of caregiving, faithful prayer, stewardship, generosity, and loyalty. She considered it a great honor to give and did so cheerfully, as the Lord instructs in 2 Corinthians 9:7. She sponsored multiple children through Compassion International, supported children’s cancer research, and was never hesitant to offer support to anyone in need – near or far. Above all else, Katie loved and faithfully served the Lord Jesus Christ, and she passionately shared His love with others. We will miss her more than words can express. Cancer robbed us of more time and precious memories with Katie. However, nothing could rob her of her love for the Lord. We celebrate the fact that she is restored, fully healed, and dancing on heaven’s streets of gold. We can rest in peace knowing this much is true because Katie chose to put her hope in Jesus.

Katie was predeceased by her father Rev. Paul S. Hudson, her brother Stephen P. Hudson, and her ex-husband William "Tony" Trenda. She is survived by her husband James Gunser, her children Natalie Wright and James Trenda, grandchildren Zach Snow, Chase and Taylor Trenda, and Grace and Lucas Wright, her mother Jeann Hudson, her sisters Jeri Hudson, Jami Craig, and Krissy Reilly, and half-brothers Leif and Liam Bostrom. She is also survived by 16 nieces and nephews and 16 great-nieces and nephews.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, June 26th at 11:00am, beginning with a reception at 10am at Greenridge Baptist Church. Due to COVID-19 restrictions in Maryland, the celebration is currently by invitation only. To continue where Katie left off – blessing others and supporting local Christian outreach – the family is requesting that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a memorial fund that will be established in Katie’s memory at Greenridge Baptist Church.
