Kathryn and I met back in 1990, so 35 years of memories, 20 of which we were married. She was a force of nature back then, as she was here. A good soul, never putting herself first. Something that will always be close to my heart, and I appreciate greatly, is how close Kathryn was to my children, treating them as her own. She will be missed.

Kathryn was the first friend I made when I moved to my new house in 2013. I had just divorced after 40 years of marriage. She lived a couple of doors away, and she made me feel welcome. We spent a lot of time together, and shared memories and life stories. She was kind, warm and open, and her energy and love of life were contagious.  I was sorry when she moved, and visited her in Arizona the next year. We  stayed in touch by phone or text, and I will never forget her.

My condolences to the people she loved and those who loved her. She had such a big heart, and I know there will be many family members and friends who will always miss her.

Lots of dinners out, celebrations and time on the beach!

Kath came into my world on December 24, 1999 when she and her family bravely moved from South Africa to Portland, Oregon where Steve would be the Finishing Manager for Rose City. In May 2000, she started volunteering at RCPP in marketing and needed time with me - a customer advocate 8 months pregnant with Becca and hard to pin down. I was elusive but she got me to share all I knew and from there we shared more than work but often play outside of it.

Just after 9/11 a flight for girls weekend in Vegas, a cruise to Mexico for my inlaws 25th wedding celebration, work trips/road trips, selling jewelry in the mall at Christmas time, planning RCPP events, and sharing our families together. You are my kid’s Grandma Kathryn. Kristen one of my kiddos. You were the “squiggle” to my “triangle with rounded corners” personality.

You taught me everything I know about serving customers with passion, joy, and excellence. The Service Model you conceptualized 23 years ago brings me joy to train and teach others your way. Your generosity, love for others, and deep care for people is unmatched and I so miss our talks, your laughter, and the joy you bring to any gathering. I love you, my friend. 25 years was not enough time yet I was so privileged to have you in my life for so long. ~your SheriLuni ❤️

As the oldest cousin I remember the visits to Harpenden and when their family came to our house. I have some photos of those early days but am not back in the UK til next week to share them with you. I was so glad to speak recently to Kathryn via WhatsApp and catch up on her story as we didn’t keep in touch very often. It was such a shame she didn’t get to the UK as she had hoped. I had seen her last in person when I visited Aunty Ann in South Africa and Kathryn was also visiting. That became a traumatic time as her Mum died during her stay.

My thoughts and prayers have been with Kristen, Randy, Andy and Mags and all her family and friends at this sad time.  I hope you will visit us some time Kristen and we can meet. Take consolation, everyone, in your happy memories.

Kathy,
Our friendship has lasted 53 years. Even though we were often miles apart, whenever we spoke it felt like no time had passed at all. How do you pack 53 years of memories into a short message?
We met as children on St Michael's beach-you were 11, and I was 10. From that moment, a lifelong bond was formed. I remember our December train trips- you heading to Pietermaritzburg, me to Durban. What fun those journeys were! Later, I'd catch the train from Joburg to Benoni to spend weekends with you, and of course we had our jols at the clubs.

Then came the time we shared a flat together in Berea. At first, all we had were our beds, a side table and my big cushions to sit on. Months later your lounge suite finally arrived and we slowly made the space more homely. We didn't have much-borrowed furniture, very little food-but thos- things didn't matter. We laughed, we talked, and we lived. I'll never forget our nightly visits to the Porterhouse in Hillbrow, where the owner took pity on us and gave us extra food, or the cappuccinos we treated ourselves to at Café de Paris. Simple times, but such happy ones.

When you got married, I stood proudly beside you as your bridesmaid. Over the years we faced marriages, divorces, and many of life's challenges. But through it all, our friendship never wavered -even when oceans separated us, we always found our way back to each other. Kathy, you were the truest and most loyal friend anyone could hope for. Your mom used to say "Here comes the long and short of it"-and that was us, through and through.
You faced such a hard and painful road with your illness. All I wished for you in those final days was peace and freedom from pain. I so wish I could have been there at the end, to hold your hand. But you were in my heart, as you always will be.

UMZIKA KWA AMANI -rest in peace-in Swahili, the language of your country of birth.

'Til we meet again, my dearest friend. Love you!
I was so inspired by Kathryn's creativity and how she brought such amazing energy to everything she did. More than that, I appreciated her kindness and the inclusive environment she created. It was a gift to know her and a privilege to cheer her on.

I met Kathryn several years ago at a Customer Service Managers meeting in Concord NH where she shared her fabulous Shapes exercise.  We were able to sit together at dinner and had a wonderful time getting to know each other.  Little did I know at that time that she would become my boss, mentor and friend.  Our time together was short, but she made every minute meaningful.  She'll always be my favorite squiggle.  My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone that loved her.
