Kay's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kathleen (Kay) Lovell, aged 88, on July 16, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, Kay leaves behind a legacy of love, joy, and unwavering faith.

Born on August 5, 1936, in Wembley, Alberta, Kay’s life was defined by laughter, compassion, and a deep commitment to her faith. She lived with grace, embracing every moment and inspiring all who knew her. Her faith in Christ was a guiding light through both challenges and triumphs, and she cherished the fellowship of her church community.

Kay was a devoted mother to her two sons, instilling in them the values of kindness, humility, and hard work. Her nurturing spirit extended to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy. Kay considered her family her greatest treasure, and she found great purpose in being their steadfast guide.

As everyone knew, Kay’s passion for service to the community was a driving force in her life. As a founder of CareConnect Christian Society, Kay dedicated her life to the service of the most vulnerable and those in need in the city of Calgary for over 45 years and recently retired at the age of 87. Her passion for helping others has left an indelible mark on countless lives. Her incredible CareConnect legacy continues on through the Centre for the City program at Centre Street Church.

Kay is survived by her two sons, Curtis and Clinton (Elaine); her beloved siblings, Mary and David (Natalka); and her cherished grandchildren: Jeremy (Caitlin), Nathan, Dexter (Samantha), Derrick (Elysse), and Ayla. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Lily and Levi.

Kay was predeceased by her loving husband, Kenneth, as well as her parents, Teodore and Martha and siblings; John, Mike, Bill, Enna, Nick, Vera, Daniel and Aleck.

A celebration of Kay’s life will be held on July 25, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Northmount Baptist Church (451 Northmount Dr NW Calgary, Alberta). The funeral will also be live streamed. Please join her family in honoring her memory and the profound impact she made in everyone’s lives.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CareConnect through Centre Street Church or to the Calgary Food Bank.

As we remember Kay, may we carry forward her spirit of love, altruism, faith, and joy. Though she will be deeply missed, she will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
