Kathleen "Kathy" Anne Hughes, born in Alhambra, CA on March 4, 1944, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2023 in Grants Pass, OR where she was a resident for over 50 years. Renowned for her warmth, generosity, mischievous humor and nurturing spirit, Kathy was a beacon of love and kindness to all who had the privilege to know her.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles Hughes and their cherished daughter, Kimberly Hughes. Kathy's love and light live on through her children, Charles Hughes II, Kelli Lassen, Rebecca Pringle and her grandchildren, Jason Hughes, Keri Hughes and Cora Pringle. Each of them carries a piece of her heart and will remember her as a loving mother, grandmother and a steadfast pillar of strength.
In 1960, Kathy married Charles Hughes and their love story became a three-part symphony with the births of their children on May 24, 1961, November 13, 1962, and December 7, 1966. Despite the tragic loss of her daughter Kimberly on February 3, 1963, Kathy's spirit remained unwavering, and she welcomed her fourth child into the world on April 7, 1978.
Kathy had a palette for well-crafted meals. She relished ice cream, a good baked potato with all the fixings, lobster tail, a juicy steak and a Chinese meal at her favorite Hong Kong restaurant. She appreciated a frosty Singapore Sling and enjoyed an array of music, including Michael McDonald, Kenny G, Rod Stewart, Maroon 5, Patti Labelle, and her favorite Kingdom Melodies. Her favorite books revolved around her faith, with the Bible being the prominent of her reading list.
Known for her competitive spirit, Kathy enjoyed a friendly match of Gin Rummy, Hearts, Spoons or Backgammon. Some of her hobbies included collecting antiques, gold mining, water skiing and camping. Her curious nature led her to spend countless hours studying the Bible and learning new things. She found joy and peace in the serene landscapes of Hawaii, the Oregon Coast, and Eden Valley, OR.
Kathy was a devout Jehovah's Witness. She faithfully believed in the hope Jehovah has provided to us all through the Bible. She carried a great love for people and made it her life's mission to share her hopes for the future with them. Her legacy remains one of kindness, generosity, and compassion—a testament to her teachings of love and following Christ's example.
Kathy's life was a testament to the power of love and the impact of kindness. Her spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy will continue to inspire those who were touched by her altruism. Through the memories we share and the lessons she taught, Kathy Hughes remains with us still, a beacon of love and light in our hearts.
