The girls, my mom and I all traveled to my cousins wedding.  We were loaded up in my Aunt Kat's big brown station wagon.  More luggage than we needed, music coming from the stereo and green face masks on while she drove.  We were having a such a wonderful time that when we got pulled over for speeding my aunt simply replied "well no wonder we were making such good time."  We were given a warning and headed back on the road.  From the minute my mom and I moved into her beach house on Ventura Ave I was welcomed as part of the girl gang.   There were dance parties to Tracy Champman and Modonna, white rice and chicken dinners, halloweens dressed as black cats, and hugs that wrapped you into her arms so warm you never wanted to be let go.
I was one of the lucky ones to have known Katherine she is beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. She loved her girls and they turned out to be amazing young ladies so many fun memories we had listening to Sade walking in her home and there’s always a rice cooker going with steamed rice. May her girls always know how much I cherish those times, each of you girls will always be in my heart may God bless you and help you through these tough times. love Julie Wight.
While Thom knew Katherine, I only met her a few times. Roz was spot on sharing how warm Katherine was, and making an effort even when it was difficult. The last time we were together, she saw us suffering, after recently losing Thom's only child. Katherine got up from a table, with her cane and came around to give us a hug. It was the warmest gesture ever, and difficult for her to do! I could have hugged her forever for being so gracious. I also saw how funny she could be, even on a difficult day. She sure was special and I'll never forget her reaching out to us, at that time. God Bless Her!❤
When my auntie Blanche moved to Portland with my cousins Kathy, Dickie and Vicki, I suddenly had a bigger family and at last sisters. Sometimes my other cousin, Connie, their older sister, would visit and we would enjoy large family gatherings for holidays, camping, card games(well maybe not me), and just having fun hanging out. Kathy and Twiggy were my favorite 60s fashionistas. We talked about modeling and I think Kathy could have done well in the field, with her statuesque features. Unfortunately, she was never “discovered “ at a lunch counter or department store like some famous models were at the time. Kathy I can envision you strutting that catwalk even now. These are the memories I will always cherish. 💕
