Katie N. Burt (Giroux) ,46, of Surprise, AZ ascended into Heaven, Saturday, March 26, 2022. Katie was embraced and surrounded by her family when she was called up.

Katie seized life, loved her family and made the most of every day.

She was a highly recognized K-8 art teacher for 10 years. She loved her students and showed it through hard work and advocacy — securing grants for her school and marching for public school reform in Arizona.

Katie set the bar high, running Ragnar, multiple trail half marathons and hiked the Grand Canyon rim to rim.

She obtained her Bachelor's Degree while raising 4 very young children, graduating Cuma Sum Laude from ASU.

She was active in her faith community, where she served as the church secretary and participated in outreach ministries.

Katie loved hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, gardening and being immersed in the beauty of the outdoors.

She was a voracious reader and consumer of information - she sought wisdom, truth, equality and justice. She was a poet, painter, piano player and a fantastic cook.

Most of all, she was the greatest person to have a conversation with— an amazing personality. Her eyes and smile would light up the night and brighten anyone's day. She was so loved.

Beyond her accomplishments and achievements, of which there are many, her most prized things in life were her children, her family, and her dog, Tina who provided calmness and love during the challenging times.

Katie is survived by her husband, mother, father, brother, 3 daughters, 3 sons, 1 daughter-in-law, aunts, uncles and other family members as well as countless students, friends and colleagues.

A memorial service followed by a celebration of life will be held April 9, 4-7 pm, Advent Episcopal Church, 13150 W Spanish Garden Dr, Sun City West, AZ 85375.
