Katherine's obituary

Katherine Andersen, known as Katie to all of her friends and family, passed away unexpectedly on May 10, 2022 at the age of 36, in New York City.

Born on December 7, 1985, in Seoul Korea, Katie came home to her Clinton, Mississippi family - Steve and Kathie Andersen, and older brother Chris - on March 4, 1986.

Katie's education began at First Baptist Preschool and then onto the Clinton Public Schools, where she excelled in honors and advanced academic courses. She played on the high school soccer team, having been on rec and traveling soccer teams since age five. She left high school at the completion of her junior year to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a doctor. After graduating high school, she attended Millsaps for one year and then onto Mississippi College for her Bachelors.

Her post-graduate studies were at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where she graduated with honors in 2012 as a Doctor of Medicine. Upon completion of residency training in anesthesiology, then a fellowship in interventional pain management, she became board certified in both areas. She then went on to become a locums anesthesiologist. Her latest and longest assignment was at Elmhurst Hospital in Queens, New York.

Katie was described as a hardworking, intelligent caring and all-around wonderful doctor by all her peers. Many surgeons trusted her work ethic, quality of care and ability to care for her patients from different cultures.

Described by many as a world traveler, Katie would go on to visit over 20 countries, including Italy, Greece, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Egypt, and even South Africa. She saw places that others would only dream of. During her travels, she learned to kite surf, scuba dive, jump out of airplanes, and wakeboard. She was always drawn to beach destinations where she could relax and reflect.

Katie is survived by her two brothers Chris Andersen of Flowood and Jordy Andersen (Michelle) of Flora; and her nephews and niece, Troy, Evan and Mallory Andersen. Her parents Steve and Kathie Andersenof Clinton, wish to express their gratitude towards all who have reached out to them. They have all been part of the healing process as they have related their stories to Katie's life story and how she touched their lives.
