Katelyn's obituary
Katelyn Paterson, 27, of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on July 14, 2024, at Rockyview General Hospital from an illness complicated by pre-existing medical conditions.
Kate was born on August 26, 1996, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. The family moved to Calgary when she was two years old. She attended Ranchlands Elementary, Queen Elizabeth Junior High and graduated from William Aberhart High School in Calgary. She was active in dance, competitive soccer, and drama throughout high school.
Kate volunteered to teach school in Ghana for two weeks following graduation, an experience that she would always remember. Wanting to pursue a healthcare career, Kate attended University of Calgary but her medical conditions made it difficult. She switched and completed training as a yoga therapist with a college in Calgary as well as attending seminars and other training. She loved kids and worked as a nanny throughout the years as well.
She always exhibited compassion for others and would stand up the underdog, the bullied and a variety of human rights. Kate had a flair for colour and artistic abilities included painting and drawing. She was also musical and had played violin when she was younger and was learning the harp. She felt inspired by the mountains and the ocean. She loved her cats and they brought her solace as her health worsened.
Kate will be remembered by her mother, Angela Waite, father Greg Paterson, siblings Scott and Kristina Paterson, step-mother Kandace Paterson, grandparents, uncles, aunts and other family. Her friends were very important to her and were her extended family. Kate is predeceased by her grandmother Evelyn Barrington and a couple of close friends.
Private burial was held on July 18 at St. John’s cemetery in Fosterton, Saskatchewan. To honour her spark and vibrancy, a Celebration of Life, will be held on her birthday weekend, August 24, 2024 in Calgary.
