While my wife and I DID have our fun times with Karen and Jon, this memory happens to be our last of Karen. Just this weekend while at our local Community Activities Center (CAC), we were remembering a graduation party that sadly, happened to be the last time we saw Karen.
We got to know Karen and John over the 4 years our kids spent in the percussion section of the Flower Mound High School Band. Our son, Brandon, became good friends with Krista. So many performances, competitions, fund-raisers, etc gave the 4 of us opportunities to visit, get to know one another, and have fun together. We were hosting a party for our own kids' graduation one afternoon and evening in May of 2023. As good hosts, my wife and I "made the rounds" to stop and say hello and thank guests for coming. As the party was winding down, I found Jon and Karen at a table that I was happy to sit at and join them. We talked and laughed and shared in disbelief that high school for "our babies" was coming to an end. We talked of good times over the years and our most recent trip to San Antonio for band competitions. It was November of 2022, Jon was down with COVID so Helen and I got to dine with Karen a few times on The Riverwalk. Karen and Helen knew each other pretty well after spending ample time together during those 4 years. They were comfortable with each other and it was obvious that they enjoyed confiding in one another with those topics that weren't always for public consumption. I know Helen had told me often how much she cherished her friendship with Karen.
So back to the graduation party. After visiting and reminiscing about good times, it was time to say goodnight and start the clean up process of the large room we rented for the party. Well Jon and Karen weren't ready to go, and no amount of declining their offers to help us would make a difference. They spent the end of their evening with us stacking chairs and folding up tables to return to storage closets and needless to say, made our job so much more fun and simple. I know it does not represent the absolute fun-filled times that we had together but that
"final" memory just sums up who Karen was and what Jon and Karen were together. They were loving parents and good friends of the entire FMHS band program. Karen was a proud momma bear to Krista. (as she was of her older daughter, Julia, whom we had not yet met) My wife and Karen bonded in those short years as if they had known each other for decades. She has and will continue to be dearly missed.

Karen's death was such a tragic loss. Our prayers are with all of you who loved her so much. Although we didn't know Karen, we are friends of Karen's mom, and have enjoyed the many photos she shared of Karen, her husband and beautiful girls over the years.  The heart break of losing Karen is beyond sympathetic words. We feel your grief and know that you're memories of Karen, and her love, will always be with you.

Alvaro and I were so blessed …
2023, FMHS Band Banquet - DFW Lakes Hilton Grapevine
Alvaro and I were so blessed to sit with Karen and Jon at the FMHS Band Banquet this past May. I met Karen through volunteering at McKamy Band many years ago and have been blessed to volunteer alongside her many times through the years. With my son and her daughter, Krista, in percussion, Alvaro and I have enjoyed sitting and spending time with Jon and Karen at numerous percussion events through the years. When our oldest decided to attend U. of Alabama (Roll Tide!) where Julia attends, Karen spent time giving me the "download" (tips and tricks) on how to prepare for the 1st year - her wisdom was invaluable as we navigated this new chapter. We cannot thank Jon and Karen enough for the friendship, wisdom and assistance - even for giving Gabriel a ride back to U. Alabama after break. We continue to pray for Jon, Julia and Krista during this incredibly difficult time. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help!

Dear Linda, we are sorry sorry to hear about Karen passing.  I pray that the memories of her will sustain you during this time of sorrow🙏.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you,

Lou and Sally

May Karen's family find some peace in all the wonderful memories.

Dear Jonny, Julia and Krista,

We will always hold Karen dearly in our hearts and we will remember her beautiful smile, great sense of adventure and deep love for you.  We were lucky enough to be in her orbit and we are grateful for the many wonderful times we had together. We love you.
