I'm taken by the passing of classmate Karen (Klaus). Totally remembered her from the early days to our final time at Redwood. Enjoyed her smile and pleasing personality. Always had a positive attitude. My sincerest condolences to her family and she will indeed by missed by many.
Story: Karen Rose had a very remarkable trait. She opened her home to people she may not have known very well and people she did know well. She had the most giggly laugh that made you feel very comfortable.
I am so so sorry Rich and Melissa and family for your great loss of Karen. Melissa, I'm so sorry you lost your Mom. I know how hard that is. I worked for Rich at YA in 1992-95. Karen opened up her home to me and let me stay over to attend Rich's parents 50th Anniversary. I videoed Melissa singing "Ava Maria." I felt honored to be a guest. My deepest sympathy to your loss. I learned to share my home with friends, and sometimes strangers, and make them feel like "family". She was the best at that!!! JJ

As the father of one of those surrogate teens who was the recipient of her friendship, nurturing and caring, and who enjoyed her wonderful laugh and equally wonderful daughter, I am glad to have known her and Rich (and Missi, of course) during our Lafayette years and am saddened the immediate world has lost her presence. And that wedding, performed in Hebrew, who knew??? Thanks for sharing that and more, Karen. David Efron
This is a memory of Karen and Missy (Melissa). Karen's passion for chocolate was only outshone by her passion for her husband, her daughter, and her furry pets. I remember visiting Rich and Karen with Rich's brother Carlos and Karen, Missy, and I went to the grocery store. Missy was probably 4 months old at the time. She gazed up at her mama from the grocery cart, where she was semi-reclining, and Karen broke off a tiny piece of her chocolate bar and placed it in Missy's mouth, telling her she was going to turn into a chocolate-lover like her mom. Missy grinned and opened her mouth for more. I have many more memories of Karen and will hold them in my heart and take them out at times, cherishing them through the tears. This great lady will be missed!
I only met Karen a few times, but I can still remember her kindness and warmth. I remember talking with Rich about how much he enjoyed having her at games, and slowing down to spend more time with her. I was touched by the love that they shared. My best to the family and to Rich.

Karen was always so helpful and knowledgeable in all things Lafayette Chamber related ( and lots of other info too!), and it was a pleasure being involved with her.
Working across the street at Lafayette Health Club, had me visiting the Chamber office often. Whether volunteering with the CofC for the Lafayette Reservoir Run, monthly mixers, or Lafayette Art and Wine, It was a pleasure, especially when Karen was involved and shared her chocolate.
She will be missed.Fondly, Kathy Korpell
Dear Rich, Melissa and Matthew,
At this moment this seems to be the only way to be with you. I'm so sorry for your loss. And be sure, I,m feeling it too. Karen has been, and always will be, a very important part of Marijns life. And I only can be grateful to have met such an openminded, outgoing person. I hope that what she meant and did will give you the strength and power to continue. I'll put her in my heart with all the ones I've loved and sadly lost. A big hug for all of you.

I'm forever grateful for the example of love, joy, and generosity that Karen gave. I will never forget the cookie dough and the laughter. She was shining example of parenthood and kindness. Smooches.
There are special women that marry and support those of us that enjoy officiating. Karen was at the top of that list as she must have attended 99% of the games that her husband officiated. To top it off, she was the ideal observer and could critique with the best. I will never forget one game that Rich and I worked and the wives-Marni and Karen-came out of the stands to work as "Chain Crew". I have to say that they made up one of the best chain crews I had ever had. Since it was a "Semi-Pro" game the players did use some colorful language and I remember Karen saying after the game that she had now heard the "F word" used as 6 or 7 different parts of speech :-) I am so thankful to have had her as a part of my life!!
I remember pouring over Karen & Rich’s wedding album with Missy and admiring the lovely picture of Karen in the row boat with a fabulous hat🥰 I have so many wonderful memories growing up at the Woodborough Rd house. I always remember Karen’s infectious giggle. Richie & Missy my veg you are in my heart, sending hugs.
What else? Go to any football game where Rich was officiating - and afterward, critiquing every call made on the field!

Enjoy chocolate and work along side her buddies with her Lafayette Chamber Family.

Karen was a lovely woman who will be missed by all who had the good fortune to know her. The joy she brought to every encounter will never be forgotten.

My deepest condolences to her family during this difficult time
