Karen's obituary
Karen Mikalonis of Dublin, Ohio and a longtime resident of Orlando, Florida died
Saturday January 1, 2022, in Dublin Methodist Hospital.
Karen was 56. She was born on February 24, 1965, in Bucks County, Pennsylvania
to Stanley and Jane Mikalonis. She was the oldest of three children including sister,
Lori Bontell and brother, Stan Mikalonis, III. After graduating from Bishop
Watterson High School in Dublin, Ohio in 1983, Karen and her family moved to
Florida, settling in the Dr. Phillips area of Southwest Orlando.
After a short time working in the hospitality industry, Karen married Mike Walls
and was blessed with three children, Michael, Eric, and Holly. She loved her
children and God. Karen was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church
and St. Jude Catholic Church where she organized mission trips, prayer groups,
conducted Bible studies, and taught confirmation classes. As her children grew,
Karen continued to serve others and turned to nursing. She would become a
licensed practical nurse (LPN) and work in various hospitals, doctor offices, and in
insurance claims management.
Karen was blessed by the Holy Spirit. After losing her son Eric in 2010, Karen
found strength and support in Jesus Christ, His Mother Mary, and her faithful
family and friends. She had a special relationship with lifelong friend, Sharon
Nobile, who encouraged Karen to relocate back to Dublin, Ohio to start the next
chapter in her life. There, she remained active in St. John Catholic Church and
worked as a nurse in the Buckeye Health System. Karen was engaged to be
married in June to Kurt Heininger, a high school friend residing in Powell, Ohio.
Karen is survived by her mother, Jane A. Mikalonis; sister Lori Bontell, brother
Stan Mikalonis, III, children, Michael E. Walls, Holly M. Walls, and three
grandchildren, Mason Walls, Dylan Walls, and Levi Walls.
Karen's funeral Mass will be held Monday, January 10th at 11:30 AM at St Jude
Maronite Catholic Church, 5555 Dr. Phillips Blvd, Orlando, Fl 32819. There will be
a graveside ceremony at 1:00 PM at Woodlawn Cemetery, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery
Road, Gotha, Florida, 34734.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to St. Jude Catholic
Church in Karen's name.
