This was at Uncle Jo Jo and Aunt Louise’s house. I think I had recently got a disc camera and captured this beauty.

My sincerest condolences for your loss. As my older cousin, many of my childhood memories include Karen. She always made you feel loved and she had that beautiful smile with a quick remark to make you laugh. She will be missed 💕
My deepest sorrows on the loss of your momma. Sending love to you during this time.

Karen was one of my closest and dearest friends through all our years at Lytle. We always had so much fun together, so many nights staying up and laughing all night. We never fought about anything, she was such a good sport letting me and Lisa drive her station wagon and cruise the roads and parties in Devine while she was working at the chicken place! Then we’d pick her up after her shift and have so much fun. We lost touch for many of our adult years but reconnected 4 years ago and it felt like no time had gone  by at all. That’s the kind of friend she was, always happy to see me and loved talking about the good old days in highschool. I miss her so much already. The last time we saw each other was at her apartment in August and she was the same Karen I’d always known. Smiling and staying brave and strong. May she rest easy now in heaven.

So many stories, laughs, and fabulous memories, sharing just a few –

Younger years:

We use to walk and talk in our sleep, even had a fight in our sleep in Port Aransas

Separated desk in class, then separated actual classrooms because we talked and cut up

At each other’s house always burst out laughing when we shouldn’t be

Definitely got paddled together by the teacher and principal

Rode our bikes for hours and hours singing Elvis songs

Cut each other’s hair

Took her door off the hinges, placed it on the bed, and used it as a slide

Snuck cigarettes and smoked them behind the hog farm shed

Stopped up the commode in the hog farm shed to watch it flood; until we got busted

Loved riding the rides at the stock show and rodeo, we’d laugh so hard we literally peed our pants

Many games on the Quija board during our sleepovers

Riding our horses bareback

Taking off on long walks in the pasture

Visiting the older people who lived nearby

Adventures on the school bus with our favorite driver Mr. Wells

Rode the riding lawnmower running over the newly planted trees then back up over it to make it stand straight

We siphoned gas out of our parents cars so we would have enough to ride all day on the mower

Formed our own 2 girl club called the Horrible Haunchos, no one else was allowed to join

Many days of sneaking Vienna sausages and crackers, climbing trees, snacking and chatting about boys

If one got in trouble the other cried just as hard, like one time I had to run laps and Karen ran with me, both crying the entire time

Always defended each other regardless who it was…one incident a guy sat behind me and cut my hair, I didn’t realize it but Karen saw and punched him square in the nose causing a serious nose bleed and a crying boy

Older years:

We spent many weekends dancing at CowTown, sneaking alcoholic drinks, and driving without a license

Lots of sleepovers at her apartment in SA – up all night talking about good times

Took a trip to Dallas to watch the Cowboys with Emmitt Smith and Troy Aikman (Karen’s fav team)

After Kara was born we spent more evenings hanging out playing with her

So many convos when she found out she was pregnant with Nicky

Many hospital memories between Karen’s wrecks and cancer but she had a smile for me regardless of her pain

Our last messages talking about our good times and how much we love each other, we always said we had the most special bond

We have so many memories together but figure I should stop here. 😊
