Karen's obituary

Karen Devlin (nee Kelly), 73, passed peacefully in her sleep on Sunday morning. She was born in the Bronx to John Joseph Kelly and Eleanor Irene Kelly (nee Wallace) and grew up in Levittown, Pennsylvania with her three sisters and brother. A kind and compassionate soul, she studied nursing and embarked on a career as an LPN, working in hospitals and nursing homes for most of her life. She eventually met and married Dr. Thomas Paul Devlin, DO. The two had five sons; Ryan Patrick Devlin, Timothy Sean Devlin, Christian Paul Devlin, Scott Thomas Devlin, and Matthew Michael Devlin. They established a home in Mt. Laurel, NJ, but eventually relocated to Myrtle Beach, SC in the early 90s. A devoted wife and mother, Karen loved her family with a fierce passion. She provided her children with endless love and support, taking great pride in all their achievements, large and small. She was always willing to talk to strangers, brightening their day with a kind word, a witty quip, or a sympathetic ear. She adored working in nursing homes, helping people in the later stages of their lives. She loved listening to the patient’s life stories and providing them with comfort in their final days. She never hesitated to help others, always giving fully of herself. She is pre-deceased by her parents, Jack and Eleanor; her sister, Stephanie Kelly; and her husband, Thomas. Karen left an impression on everyone she met. She is survived by her brother, Sean (Tina) Kelly; two sisters, Eleanor (Archie) Buchan and Ellen Kelly; and five sons, Ryan (Diane) Devlin, Timothy (Melissa) Devlin, Christian (Tracy) Devlin, Scott Devlin, and Matthew Devlin. She also leaves behind ten grandchildren; Lily, Jakob, Ava, Caden, Jackson, Colin, Isla, Kaitlyn, Avery, and Caleb. A memorial service is being held at Garden City Baptist Church at 11 am on Friday, September 3, 2021. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Karen’s honor to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
