Kara's obituary
Kara Honaker, 48, of Chippewa Falls, WI, passed away on January 31st after a fierce and valiant 5-year battle with breast cancer.
Kara was born on March 3rd, 1975 to Roy Ellis White and Cathy Cates in Woodward, OK. After graduating from Monzano High School in 1994, she went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering at New Mexico State University. She was very proud of her degree and was the first in her family to graduate from college.
On January 20th, 1996, she met Carson Honaker at the Math Learning Center, both working as math tutors, on the New Mexico State University campus. It was Carson’s first day on the job the day he met her. That night, they went to a play, Peter and the Wolf, for their first date. From that day on, they were pretty much inseparable. A few years later, they would get married in a little chapel on the University of New Mexico campus on August 13th,2000.
After graduation, her and Carson set off for Fort Collins Colorado where they spent 6 years and had two of their five children, Kaylie Honaker (23) and Natalie (20) Honaker. Kara was an amazing mother from the start and the Lord blessed the family as she was allowed to stay home and raise the kids. During the time in Fort Collins, they bought a house and they also had two exchange students stay with them for a year, Gustavo (from Venezuela) and Julian (from Germany). In late 2005, the family’s adventure continued as they moved in a blizzard to Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin where they’ve spent the next 18 years. Since then, they’ve had three more children, Emily (16), Stella (13) and their first boy, Carson (9). They also opened their home to more exchange students: Matej (Czech Republic), Jin Soo (South Korea), Nicolas (Ecuado), Jun Ha (South Korea) and Bodin (Serbia).
I think what Kara loved the most, besides God and her family, is people. She loved doing things for others. Much like Jesus, it didn’t matter the person’s background or what struggles they might have been going through in their life, Kara was always willing to talk or give you her time. She loved good conversation, garage sales, gardening, good conversation, baking, researching, more good conversation and spending time with her family. Kara loved learning, too. She was never afraid to take on a new challenge. She wasn’t afraid to have her husband take one on, either. There were many a washer or some machine that we’d have completely apart to try and fix. Many times, we were actually successful! Most of all, Kara loved her kids and family. She would go to the ends of the earth for them and even during her long battle with cancer, she was always thinking of them and whether they were taken care of enough. She was always thinking or doing for others.
Kara is preceded in death by her father, Roy Ellis White, her stepmother, Mama Karen and a few babies that she miscarried. She is survived by her husband, Carson Honaker; her sister, Krystal Nestor; her brother, Brandon Cates; her mother, Cathy Cates; and her children, Kaylie, Natalie, Emily, Stella, and Carson (Boo Boo) Honaker.
Services will be held at Chippewa Valley Bible Church on Saturday, March 9th at 11am. There will be a visitation on the evening of 3/8 from 6-8pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a scholarship fund we are setting up in Kara’s honor. She was very passionate about learning and furthering one’s education.
