June's obituary

June D. Wefler

1951 – 2026

June D. Wefler passed into eternity on Sunday, April 19, 2026, leaving behind a song in the hearts of those who knew her.

Her Life and Legacy

A proud native of Northwest Indiana, June was a graduate of Horace Mann High School, Class of 1969. Following graduation, she spent much of her professional life in Gary, Indiana, where she dedicated 25 years of service to the Elgin, Joliet, & Eastern Railway Company.

Beyond her career, June was known for her joyful spirit. She was an accomplished whistler and possessed a natural gift for music. She was famous for always singing to people, using her voice and her melody to brighten the days of friends, family, and even strangers.

Family

June’s greatest pride was her family. She was a devoted mother to David Wefler (Katie). Her joy was multiplied through her two grandchildren, Lucy and Duke, who will miss their "Yia Yia" dearly.

June is survived by her brother, Thomas Wefler (Stasia), as well as a large and loving extended family, including many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Wefler and Mary Erxleben Speece; her sister, Debe Mitchem-White; and her three brothers, Terry Wefler, Frank Wefler, and Mike Wefler.

Memorial Information

In honor of June’s vibrant life, a memorial picnic will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026 beginning at 11:00am at Festival Park in Hobart, IN.
