June's obituary

June Jens, 96, of Madison, WI, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2022 at Oregon Healthcare & Rehab in Oregon, WI.

June was born on October 23, 1926 in Racine, WI. After graduation from Central High School in Sheboygan WI, she worked as a waitress until October 12, 1946, when she married Wilmer (Willie) Jens.

She worked at home for twenty-years as a piano teacher while raising her daughters and later went on to work in Admissions at Memorial Hospital in Sheboygan until her retirement.  She then volunteered for many years at the Homespun Post, a senior citizen craft/thrift store in Sheboygan.

June was an avid seamstress, making her own clothing, and that of her daughters, as well as craft items.  Until her eyesight made reading books impossible, she was always reading something, preferring suspense, murder mystery novels.  When she could no longer see the words, she got books on tape and enjoyed them for many years.

June loved her cats and dogs, caring for her family, getting a little crazy with Willie, and traveling.   They were regulars at The Flamingo Club where they would dance all night long.

Her beloved husband passed away suddenly on February 14, 1992.  A few years later she sold most of her possessions and her house on David Avenue in Sheboygan, and moved to Apache Junction, Arizona.  Her furry companion, Bijou, a very spoiled miniature poodle, went with her.

While in Arizona, she was active with the Red Hat Ladies, baked pies and helped serve at almost every potluck dinner at the Sunrise Mesa Mobile Home Park.  They sure loved her pies!

June loved playing BINGO at various club houses and slot machines at casino's as well as shopping at the local Swap Meet, but her true lifelong passion was classical music, which she enjoyed even in her last days.

At age 81, she moved back to Wisconsin to be closer to family, lamenting every time it snowed that she was "moving back to Arizona"!

June was preceded in death by Wilmer Jens, William Jens, Caroline Jens (nee Poth), and Jene Kissel. She is survived by daughters Judith Adrianson (Tim), Madison, WI and Mary Mooney (John), Lansdale, PA.  Sister-in-law, Nancy Kissel, Sheboygan, WI, also survives, as well as many nieces and nephews.   Surviving grandchildren are Jennifer Heleniak (Mark), Wauwatosa, WI; Molly Solie (David), Verona, WI; Matthew Braun (Susan), Oreland, PA; and Patrick Braun (Karen), Chadds Ford, PA.  She is also survived by step-grandchildren, Beth Furumo (Johannes), Pewaukee, WI; Jennifer Lohse (Michael), Sheboygan, WI; and Matthew Mooney (Nicole), Cedarburg, WI.  Great-grandchildren Nathan, Quinn, Anja, Isabella, Donovan, Alina and Amelia also survive.

Memorial Service at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 110 Whitney Way, Madison WI 53705 on Saturday, December 3,  with luncheon to follow.  Visitation from 10 am - 11 am. Memorial Service at 11 am. Luncheon around noon.
