Julia's obituary

Julia Ray Nelson Gilmer, born April 14, 1958, passed away on March 29, 2025, at her home. She was 66 years old.

Born to Elinor Braarud and Raymond Nelson, Julia lived a life full of adventure, creativity, and love. She was preceded in death by her parents and her dear sisters, Heidi Goshorn and Nelda Lindell. She is survived by her brothers, Andy Pierce and Joshua Braarud, who will hold her memory close to their hearts.

Julia was a devoted mother to her daughters, Alena Gilmer and Acacia Gilmer, and a proud grandmother to Makiah Gilmer, Lyric Howard, Kahloni Howard, and Avrielle Gilmer. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Xerzhiah Howard, Mohlu Howard, and Dehmare Howard, who brought her immense joy.

She had a passion for cooking, a love for gardening, and a spirit that thrived on adventure. Whether exploring new places or enjoying a peaceful walk with her beloved dog, Julia embraced life with curiosity and courage.

Though she passed alone, Julia’s life was anything but lonely—her love, wisdom, and kindness left an indelible mark on those who knew her. She will be remembered for her adventurous soul, her nurturing heart, and the warmth she brought to those around her.

Her family will honor her life in a private gathering. In lieu of flowers, they ask that you take a walk, cook a favorite meal, or plant something beautiful in her memory—just as she would have loved.
