Dear Gordon and Sue,
So sorry about the tragic loss. Wishing you comfort, love, and peace, eventually.

I met Julia while doing a masters program at York University around 2011-2012. We were in classes together and often spoke and joked around. I remember her as smart, funny, and great company. She played marimba on a piece I wrote. I remember her with warm memories. Today I played ‘Julia’ by John Lennon at a gig and dedicated it to her.
My condolences to her family and those closest to her.

I will never forget Julia. We met in the late 1990s as music students at University of Toronto. She was a beautiful, smart, funny, deeply intuitive, sensitive and kind human, with a fire that both inspired, and even at times burned:) I’ve always known her as a kindred spirit and greatly appreciated the many deep and meaningful discussions we shared over the years. She was also very wise in many ways. She understood people, and she understood pathways to living a good life.
I have the pleasure and honour of being the pianist in her jazz quintet. We recorded an album together and played many shows, a highlight being the MainStage at the Montreal International Jazz Festival. She loved playing music and was also a very unique composer. I’ve been listening to our album again on Bandcamp recently to remember these experiences.
I will miss you Julia. You were a beautiful, sensitive, and passionate soul who made this world a better place to be in. Don’t worry, we will always remember you. As long as the memories are alive, YOU too are alive. See you on the other side, and make sure you get the piano tuned before I get there. ❤️

I am still trying to process the unfathomable loss of Julia. My heart goes out to her parents, sister Tara and partner, John. I first got to know Julia about 8 years ago when I began studying piano with her. I studied with her for four years and we became friends. Studying piano with Julia changed my playing and my life. I will be eternally grateful to her for sharing her insights and talent with me. She was a wonderful, talented, smart and kind person and I will miss her forever. Please accept my deepest sympathies on your loss. Kathryn
