Julia's obituary

In Loving Memory of Julia Etta Woolard Julia Woolard

Julia Etta (Bufford) Woolard, was born on March 13, 1933, second child to James Edward Bufford and Elma Bufford of Gary, Indiana.

Julia graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School of Gary, Indiana in 1951, and married Charles Elbert Woolard, who graduated from the same high school three years earlier. They were married shortly after her graduation. During their marriage of about ten years, three children were born: Sharlyne Denise (Buchanan), Tanya Delores (Heard), and Charlton Clint Woolard.

Raising her 3 children as a single parent, Julia would take on multiple jobs - from working in a pants factory in East Chicago, Indiana, to being a secretary for over 30 years in Gary, Indiana. She raised and supported all three of her children until they were grown and gone without any government public assistance, though she received no child support. Her secretarial career started in the Gary Municipal Building at City Hall in downtown Gary, Indiana during the Hatcher administration. It ended with her being known as a devoted and committed secretary for the Gary Community School Corporation from which she retired in July of 2000 at age 67.

Julia lived independently for a while in senior apartment buildings. A believer in God, she became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses years before her retirement. She would attend meetings until she needed multiple hip replacements. Failing health issues would follow, which necessitated moving into an assisted living facility and nursing homes thereafter. In December of 2017, Julia was moved to California, where her daughter, Tanya, could care for her in a rehabilitation facility near her. She would live in the Laguna Hills Health and Rehabilitation facility until she fell “asleep” in death on February 27, 2021.

Along with her daughters, Julia believed the resurrection hope declared by Jesus Christ at John 5:28 ,29 in the Holy Scriptures. She went to “sleep” trusting that she will be “awakened” and be united again with the many relatives and friends she left bereaved of her in Paradise on earth. -Matthew 5:5; 6:10; Luke 23:43; John 11:11, 14.

Julia’s children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren wish to express deep gratitude to all who have conveyed their sincere condolences. All such persons have been a great source of love and comfort.
