Judith's obituary

Judith Marie (Newman) Scott known to those who loved her as “Judy” was born May 2, 1949 and left us on May 9, 2022. Judy was born in Tryon, NC in Polk County at the property now known as The Pinecrest Inn. She finished her journey with us in life in Spartanburg, SC. She was the loving daughter of Hanford George Newman and Marvin K. and Clara Belle (Kimbrell) Hitt. Judy was first married to Allen Scott and then to Robert (Bob) Hilbrick with whom she was partnered with in life for over 40 years.

Judy retired from Quaker Oats/PepsiCo where she managed teams from records management, analytical and sensory evaluation, and taste test panels. She was an active member of ARMA International while working for Quaker. Judy loved to travel, she and Bob and her family spent time traveling on various vacations. Judy was also very fond of collecting art & antiques, and artisan creations. She was also an active member of the Bull Valley Garden Club while living in Bull Valley, IL. Judy was an unparalleled hostess for many Christmases, holidays, birthdays, and other important family events at the home she shared with Bob in Bull Valley, IL. She carried on a year’s long tradition of celebrations and fun family events. She enjoyed collecting Patricia Breen, Christopher Radko, and other fine collections of ornaments dating back to the 1990’s. She loved horses and her Giant Schnauzer named Jet. She was the beloved head of our family, and we will miss her dearly.

Judy is survived by her husband Robert E. Hilbrick of Landrum, SC. Judy has one daughter Traci Lyn (Tomas) Soto-Garcia. She has a step daughter Angela (Frank) Holdeman of Carol Stream, IL. She also has a step son Robert (Wendy) Hilbrick of Elgin, IL.

Judy has 5 siblings Michael G. Newman, Thomas C. (Debbie) Newman, Sheila “Kay” Newman, Jerry L. (Sharon) Newman, and Rhonda (Rick) Howe.

She has five grandchildren; Katie, Brett, Christian, Chloe, and Chandler.

She also has many nieces and nephews; Joshua (Jazmin) Newman, Misty Newman, Elise (Dave Worden) Newman, Chadwick (Ashley Katzel) Newman, Aaron (Tia) Howe, and Kyle Howe. Judy has many grand nieces and nephews; Kat, Otto, Ollie, Jack, Ava, Carson, and Jolee.

She was preceded in death by her sister Vicky Newman- sister, Hanford G. Newman- father, Kevin D. Scott- son, Marvin Hitt- step-father, and Clara K Hitt- mother.
