Judy was my sister in law, but she was also one of my very best friends.
Whenever one of my children was facing an educational issue such as an upcoming important IEP meeting, Judy was there for us. I can't even say how many times she put her own life on hold to drive to Bethesda, MD, and attend school board meetings with me. Her advice was always on target, and I do believe that the Montgomery County School system was in awe of her. She just called them on the carpet so many times as she fought for the rights of my children. I will be forever in Judy's debt for the times she assisted me.
I do remember some advice that Judy once gave me: All of our children are gifted, they just open the box at different times. What a wonderful mantra.
Our seven children grew up together, and my children remember Judy as one of their favorite aunts. I hope to meet many of you at the memorial service, and all of my children will be there to pay tribute to Judy.

Dear Bob, Anna, Katie, Mollie and Robin,
Thinking of you all with love, and looking forward to the Memorial Celebration of Life in August.
Bob and family, so many fond memories while Judy and I worked getting Athol to build a strong literacy environment in the elementary schools. So many mornings sitting outside the superintendent’s office building an argument to get his support. She and I went through so many emotions as we worked with staff getting all the support we could for every student that needed an intervention. Judy was the go to person for me to get answers as she analyzed the DIBELS data. After Athol , Judy and I continued to find ourselves working together in other districts. I learned so much from her and have so many memories of fun times together. Glad I got to see more of her after her retirement down here on the cape.

Hi Bob. Was so good to connect with you a couple weeks ago and hear your voice. George and I were so very sad to learn of Judy's passing. Though our paths only crossed at Root reunions, she was always someone we could easily connect with and was such a peaceful and loving person. And she was obviously such a wonderful mother to your beautiful children, and was so loving with all the kids at reunions. Our hearts go out to you and your kids and all your extended family. Surrounded by loving family, may the wonderful life you shared and memories of her bring you all comfort and peace.
I am shocked and heartbroken to learn of Judy's death. Judy and I came to know each other working as consultants for DESE a few years ago. We became fast friends and she quickly became a treasured colleague. Her passion and enthusiasm for everything she did, from sharing her love of literacy to anyone who would listen, to Bob and her children, to sailing, and "projects" was infectious. While I haven't spoken to her since covid started, I would think of her often. Please know that the impact she has had on so many students and educators will always be a part of her legacy. You all and Judy are in my thoughts and prayers.
I worked with Judy for four years in Hartford and we clicked right away. I think of her, and miss her, everyday. My heart goes out to Bob and the kids whom she spoke of frequently, and adored. ❤️
I am without words at the sudden loss of Judy. Every meeting with her was a mini crash course in literacy...and I soaked up every single tidbit of information she shared. I will miss our debates, emails, dinners in Northampton and stories of the loves of her life...her children and Bob.
We only had the privilege of meeting Judy on a few occasions, but she left us with an impression of a warm and generous woman who made us feel so welcome to Cape Cod. She and Bob were our first "invitation" to their home to share a lovely brunch together. Judy made us feel right at home in our new neighborhood. We will remember her with our love. We will miss her in our community.
I had the great fortune to sail with Judy several times on her day sailer, and then last summer on Moondance, her dream boat. I know enough to manage a Sunfish in Waquoit Bay, but not much more. Judy was an adventurous, self taught sailor, and she wasn’t afraid to take on any challenge. She patiently explained what I needed to do with the lines, and when there wasn’t any wind we would have lively discussions on political issues. We also shared some meals together, usually involving clams or oysters we had gathered. My husband, son and I even enjoyed a pandemic Thanksgiving with her and Bob on their deck, masked, socially distanced...and was memorable!

I admired Judy’s spirit, good sense, practicality, and generosity.
